I guess they just really have to raise the BR to decompress everything. Also this would be fixed by putting the Centurion Mk.3 back to 7.3
Yes, that is right. I tried clarifying to you that I had misunderstood the other guy, but i was not thorough enough :)
You know what would actually fix this. If the 279 wasn’t super buffed.
Issue one. Reload rate. They currently have it at 8.6, but it should be 12 seconds. 12 seconds was a reasonable reload rate for this in testing with a well trained crew. So it currently is over performing by 30%.
Issue two, its shells are over performing. In game they gave it 364mm of pen. The true values for the 279s shells at 1000, 2000, and 3000 meters:
0 degrees 280mm, 245mm, and 215mm.
30 degrees 240mm, 206mm, 175mm.
60 degrees 114mm, 97mm, 85mm.
As you can see, if angled the 279s real ammo struggles a lot. But again they have given it magical over performance.
Issue 3 is the armor. It uses cast armor welded together. It takes 10 - 20% thicker armor for the same performance as rolled steel. So it shouldn’t be eating shots like it does now.
I see you also mention the Mk3. Well this is where it gets worse. The L11 gun on the Mk3 and Mk5 have not been given its best ammo (shocker right). These tanks are missing its APFSDS and L15A4 plus L15A5 that its L11 gun could fire. The L15A5 outperforms the M-65 (279s gun) by a lot. At 60 degrees the Chieftan should have 76.5% better penetration. Funny enough at 0 degrees the Chieftan should have 355mm penetration (the 279 in game has 364 which it shouldn’t) so it should have the numbers the 279 is magically getting.
So the 279 is getting the performance the L11 gun should be getting, and over performing by a lot.
Another issue is its acceleration. It should only hit 30kmh at about 7 - 8 seconds on perfect level asphalt. It is accelerating way too fast in game.
Lastly for this post. They turned off spalling on the 279. Absolutely atrocious russian bias to just have it off. Here is the code from the game file:
““body_shields”: {
“armorClass”: “tank_structural_steel”,
“hp”: 1000.0,
“armorThickness”: 4.0,
“stopChanceOnDeadPart”: 0.0,
“createSecondaryShatters”: false”
If you fixed these glaring issues with it, its actually in the right place.
Reduce its shell performance to the proper stats. At least 30% reduction in penetration and abysmal angled penetration (IRL it had about 85mm pen at 60 degrees).
Reduce its reload rate to 12 seconds MAX and about 15 second stock.
Reduce its acceleration by half at least.
Fix its armor, considering its cast.
Turn spalling on for the 279. Its cast steel. Its absolutely silly this tank has spalling turned off.
And for those running the L11 gun give it the proper ammo (which would pen the 279 just fine).
Do these and its in a good BR where it sits.
Ignoring the 279 for a sec, what documents are you using to get that?
I can remember theyre using De Marre’s modified formula to get values for Pen on Sabot shot, but if you’ve got something declassified that proves its underperforming, maybe pop a bug report in? If you can see a recent-ish Chieftain thread it might be worth putting it in there. I haven’t had any consistent issues with the round but 279 Frontal shots are a bit of a nightmare across the board. Only thing that reliably caves it in in my experience is a MILAN.
I mean I will be honest, if you’re expecting to Pen a 279 with a 84mm Centurion you’re asking for a bit much. a Centurion with the 105mm L7? Maybe less outlandish (although i’ve still had issues with that, but i havent tried it recently sooooo)
The reason it is underperforming is because they do not include the appropriate ammunition. Players are not allotted the use of the L15A4, L15A5, and APFSDS that the L11 gun the Chieftan has can fire. That is why it is underperforming. This should be a module unlock.
You can pen the 279 with heat. It can with the right hit even one-shot it but the Centurion Mk.3 doesn’t get it. So i cannot frontally pen and a Centurion 34km/h vs. the 279’s 56km/h is not gonna help me flank it
My brother in christ, that is the modifier for the 5mm of spaced armor steel around the edges of the hull, that has nothing to do with the actual RHA/CHA armor of the tank.
It is listed under the armor, and spalling is turned off. So it is in fact part of the armor on the tank which should shatter by the way.
There would be no point of fragments spawning from it because its 5mm of thin steel sitting ON TOP of the extremely thick cast hull armor which spalls just fine when penetrated. Also armor that thin never spalls, I think the minimum thickness for spalling on armor in game is like 7mm+.
Still not 9.0. Gaijin is not good enough to balance their own game… Even i could fucking balance this shit better
While it becomes more balanced for you, it becomes imbalance for object 279 owners bro their perfectly balanced 8.7 will become disappears just like the current 7.3
Finally it’s going to 9.0
FINALLY!!!
Wow, so they ruined it. GG crybabies.
Just don’t spawn in uptiers lmao.
Almost every second match is an Uptier…
Thats unavoidable since so many 9.3-10.0 premium owners.
It was already like this even before the ww2/cold war compression, 7 out of 10 matches you will see 9.7 tanks and your spawn point is dirt cheap like 100sp, maybe 1 out of 20 matches you are the top tier and fight 7.7s.
