The higher up you go, the more selfish and brainless gameplay becomes. You can simply rush in a vehicle with automatic cannons and have a 50/50 chance of destroying half of the enemy team.
At first glance, the idea seems alright. You’re a hard working player and have achieved a lot for the team, so you’re rewarded with the chance to immediately win the match with fashion. However it rarely works like that. Most times it’s just a player holding W and left click, destroys 4-5 vehicles, caps a couple points, destroys a couple more enemies and there, you got your nuke.
I know team work in this game is sometimes complicated to achieve, but I believe devs are actively acting against it by adding these CoD mechanics that, from my point of view, don’t fit in the game.
Nukes are a way to reward players fighting like hell and/or who have good skill.
I actually just dropped my first nuke a few days ago. I forgot the name of the map, but for a solid 5 minutes I was on the B cap fighting the other team off, needing to recapture it multiple times by myself. After all was said and done, I had 8 or so tank kills and 3 captured and got to bring in a nuke. That cap was the one that stayed held most of the game, as the rest of my team basically died at that point.
I got to then spawn in a nuke and drop it for my efforts. Nothing there that doesn’t incentivize teams play and I got rewarded for my performance by getting to drop a nuke and win the game when we were in a bad spot.
No, it’s not but if that player was gonna be like that, then they weren’t contributing to the team in any meaningful way already. They were either gonna go on a rampage by flanking or die immediately and probably leave. Nothing you can do to prevent that.
Nukes are a killstreak to reward you doing well, war thunder is not the only team-based game that has something like this.
I see nothing wrong with them being a thing.
This seems more like you have an issue with autocannon vehicles themselves, not the actual nuke mechanic
And I agree that sometimes, nuke-chasing can make players make mistakes, or adopt suboptimal strategies. But even in that case I dare say it’s working as intended: the player acting too selfishly will get themselves killed in a pointless nuke rush while the more patient team players will be rewarded.
Yesterday I was in a 7.0 - 8.0 match on Sinai. I was with German 6.7, uptiered to play with a friend who has the removed vehicles. I got a nuke with a combo of Tiger 2 Sla / Jagdtiger. But I made it far too complicated for myself, because after two caps and a good haul of kills, I knew a nuke was in sight.
So first I got myself killed by stupidly not checking a corner. Then upon respawning I messed up a couple shots I never should have. This in turn meant that I earned the nuke too late and I felt the time pressure to spawn it immediately in order to save the match, and this resulted in me being shot down by hostile air.
Note how this is a “logical chain” leading to honest mistakes made while legitimately trying to save a match (of course our 8.0 Sweden guy 1DL’d). Sure, I got a nuke, but it still wasn’t enough to cancel out the good team play on the other side. We won when another team mate earned a nuke shortly after me and managed to drop it.
What you describe instead, people rushing in an autocannon spammer to get the meme nuke, is simply stupid and suicidal gameplay. Unless it works out, they’re not actively helping their team win. So you describe it as promotion of selfish behaviour, but I see the opposite, it’s punishment of selfish behaviour.
No, its IMPOSSIBLE to achieve as both game doesnt provide you with proper communication and players dont seem to be bothered by that.
It does fit the game narrative devs are pushing. They push self-circled gameplay with competitiveness inbetween teammates, thus the rewards that are mostly about one`s own results. And for such one who did most in the match, devs provide a reward with a chance of winning despite if your team’s winning.
Unfortunately I’ve just happened to come across a handful matches where selfish players end up winning, many times coinciding with our victory being in reach.
I have also mistakenly talked about one of the most bollocks situation that to my eyes seems to be a plague to GRB, which is the abuse of SPAAs. There are probably other posts about it, but it’s genuinely frustrating how they sometimes outperform MBTs.
I still stand when I say Gaijin is forcing a game style that IMHO doesn’t fit the game. It feels as if developers are forcing us to play the way they want, shown with the removal of sniper spots in some maps, and other locations where you can only hold W and brawl.
I thank you all for your replies which have helped me have a different view on the situation :- )
