I believe both are actually being “manually” guided by the AI as if a player is controlling it, so even though you can chaff the radar, the AI keeps their theoretical cross hair on you.
It’s not just the OSA/BUK that’s doing that, I’ve had hawks so the same to me.
I think their “simplified for server performance” SAM AI has a slightly different idea of terrain from what we see
testing the hawks now
LMAO! And I was wondering if it auto “surrendered” like it does in ARB 😂 Guess not!
Oh, well still hilarious 🤣
oh no it did but if i had enough fuel i can just taxi around and stay there

Who in your experience wins more in the higher bracket of the Nuclear Thunder gamemode?
- US wins more
- USSR wins more
- 50/50 split (even)
uh I don’t have as clear as an example but the hawk is losing tracking when I dip under a hill and not firing more, where the buk kept firing and had its missiles track
Wanna know what peoples opinions on this idea I just had to solve the suicide issue in Nuclear thunder.
Only grant SP for actions performed once an aircraft lands.
That way, all actions performed are only meaningfully impacting the game if they move the tactical situation forwards unless a pilot manages to land their aircraft, at which point they are granted SP for their actions (moving the strategic situation forward)
This would render the center furball meaningless, as the only people partaking in that arent playing the objectives whatsoever. Players attacking ground targets, or players defending their ground targets would have an impact on tickets and the situation on the ground, so their contribution would actually define who wins the match, and finally, if someone does abnormally well, they get the chance to try to use the strategic bomber. It would also help prevent suicide nuke runs, which should help keep the airfields up longer.
thats terrible and destroys the entire reason the gamemode is so much more fun than air rb, you don’t have penalty for deaths.
just buff the pve rewards to be on par with pvp, let the people choose which to do
Can they remove the Buks please? They are overpowered.
I genuinely dont understand what your issue with my suggestion is?
- I didn’t say prevent SL/RP gain from actions until landing, i just said dont give SP (the stuff used to spawn nukes) until someone lands
- like 90%+ of the RP/SL you gain is from activity time, not kills, so even IF you werent getting RP/SL until landing (which once again, isnt what I suggested) you’d still be getting 90%+ of your RP/SL at the end of the game even if you never managed to land.
This suggestion is basically just adding the punishment that you cant spawn nukes if all you do is suicide?
Or it’s the fact they just intercept the first one because the missiles pop up. I’m not getting directly on top of them to launch
They intercept your ARM because they begin engaging a target at a preset range (if they have ammo ready) and your missile enters their range first if you fire too early.
If you or a friend baits their shot BEFORE you fire an ARM, they dont intercept it (ie: you can always win a 1v1 vs GBAD). It gets trickier when there are more SAM systems with different engagement ranges, such as the medium range Hawk/Buk/Patriot/S-300, since they’ll engage you much further out, but they have an Osa/Roland and Shilka/Gepard for SHORAD/VSHORAD. It genuinly is just a knowledge/skill issue if your ARMs keep getting intercepted.
I thought you were suggesting the useful actions system that killed simulator.
though I will say that nukes will not be intercepted by sams and are 100% guaranteed to land when lofted, I have never once needed to suicide to drop a nuke and find it considerably safer than ground pounding with normal ordinance
oh wait i see what you meant, they aren’t dogfighting like that for sp, they’re doing it for score. those people are literally ignoring the event just to grind it lol.
Can confirm with video proof that hawks will not fire through hills and will lose track when dipping behind them. ill go test the patriots and s300s as well, I couldn’t even get the patriot to fire at me last game though.
What happens if you run out of munitions or fuel and get downed in the return trip?
I personally think the useful action system is genius ngl, but its not what I’m suggesting here.
Yeah, but if they only gave SP when you land, people would likely try to intercept people trying to bomb toss more, so it should make bomb-tossing riskier, and make getting nukes in general harder as well, so less nukes being tossed around.
The whole point of the system i suggested is to force people to interact with the objectives more. Be it by ground attack or by defending your things from ground attack.
Lot of people are playing the event for other reasons than to grind for the bombers. Some people just want to drop the big nuke, some are doing it to grind RP/SL, etc… I’m also thinking longer term, since gaijin said they plan on making this type of gameplay permanent in WT in the future.
No SP, you didn’t make it back.
