@BVV_d is this the “Air superiority” mode you mentioned in that Q&A video?
Also could we have a section on the forum to discuss this mode as it’s being developed. We are almost at 5000 messages in this thread in 2 days. Hard to keep track of what has been posted already.
i think they should take the F14A and F14B out so theres no pheonix spam but so far as im concerned MIG29 and YAK141 vs F15s F16s and F18s is about as balanced as it gets considering they all have there ups and downs for example
the F15 is the fastest but cant turn great
the f16 is probably the best all rounder
the f18 turns the best but looses speed the quickest
the mig29 has an ok flight model with HMD and R27ER/R73
and the YAK141 is in the same boat just with VTOL capability
Hey @BVV_d are there any plans of adding helicopters in a mission like this? just like how you guys did it with the SEAD or would this be hard to do due to the big size of the map which would make heli travel times too much?
they just added a bottom and top br the mig23 is only gonna face F15s if it has a nuke on it
same goes for the US facing mig29s in an f4e because they have the nuke
i do think the f14 should be removed so no fox 3 but the F15 and F18 dont face the mig23 anyway unless someones using the free planes which again also goes for america with only getting the F15 F16 and F18 if u done the tree your free vehicles are F4s and A10s
What about using the foundations on a de-escalated version for the current ARB setup? That way it can be rolled out as a workaround for the current map pool without the need of a list of new maps to add for the gamemode to arrive.
Like, instead of six airfields, set three. Instead of 12 ground units spawners, set 6. The concept de-escalates and becomes feasible on the current maps in-game, and everyone’s happy with the compromise set in a EC-like game flow.
After over 4,000 hours in War Thunder, I can honestly say Nuclear Thunder is exactly the kind of game mode this game has been missing.
The core battles are still fun, but after years of playing, it can get repetitive. Nuclear Thunder shakes things up, adds a fresh pace, and gives longtime players something completely different to jump into. This is not just another tank or plane addition. It is a new way to experience the game, and that is exactly what War Thunder needs right now.
My hope is that Gaijin keeps supporting this mode instead of letting it fade away. It has real potential to become a permanent part of the game if they refine it and keep building on it. Modes like this are what keep veteran players engaged and make the game feel alive even after thousands of hours.
Honestly, seeing something this different shows that the game can still evolve in meaningful ways, and I really hope we get more updates like this in the future. War Thunder needs it.
Could you share the client logs for this wait? There may be matching issues; we’re trying to identify and resolve them. Logs would be helpful. The wait shouldn’t be that long, even considering there are more US players in the queue.
Mig-21 has better airframe, better IR A2A missiles, and both sides would have areas they are superior in without completely dominating the other. AIM-7E-2s would be effective at high altitudes but that can be negated by ground clutter where the Mig-21bis can still beat F-4Es in a dogfight.
Thanks for falling for it. So Not only does the Mig-23 get better missiles, PD and R-60s that can work in short ranged jousts, it turns better and is faster. Literally dumps on the F-4E in every corner. but boohoo we don’t get to completely be better than the F-4E because our nuke is smaller :( Guess we gotta use another plane that’s faster than the F-4E.
Literally saw the exact issue I am talking about. SU-24 is just speeding past the F-4E and the ACM mode won’t pick anything if a single leaf is within that bounding box.
No they’re not. And I love you have to predicate with “they won’t notice.”
So you’re proving my point further. The only way to beat a Mig-23 as a F-4 is for him to literally be unaware of his surroundings.
I can say the F-4E can beat the F-22 as long as the F-22 is not paying attention.
What a joke. A dedicated tactical bomber being used as a tactical bomber and you’re complaining about it when you literally can outrun the F-4E and he can’t do anything.
Any chance you have plans to bring this style of gamemode to air simulation battles as well? Nuclear Thunder is everything I’ve ever wanted a War Thunder air mode to be, and playing it in simulator battles, which already functions on the Enduring Confrontation logic, and is effectively a toned down version of this mode, would be incredible! I’m sure many sim players that enjoy more complex objective gameplay would love to have it there as well, and it would likely bring a lot of sim players to the game!
I have to agree,i just didn’t like jets before,i still don’t , i’m not a jet player, im more of a mid’tier ,early jet ,but it play mostly ground ,so i don’t care much about them.
Honestly, I still don’t like jets, but that’s only because of the learning curve,i wouldn’t have played jets otherwise.
But it has taught me the different ways of how missiles work, and that even unconventional planes such as t he a10 warthog works wonders for my playstyle in this mode.
I’ve run into an issue with replays specific to the event. They all cut off at ~14 minutes and end the replay session and send me back to the hangar. I haven’t tried getting the replay via the website yet. (I was using FF x8 and x16 as well)
THANK YOU! I can’t describe how happy reading this post is making me knowing this is going to become a permanent game mode, I’ll be honest I had essentially stopped playing the game for months at a time since I’ve play mostly air since 2016 and this game mode got me back to the game and got me almost addicted, I haven’t had this much fun and looking forward to play War Thunder in the longest time, this game mode with some tweaks and balancing changes can become the best game mode in the game period, thank you so much, you just win back a long term player!!! :D
Currently I have noticed that players keep playing this the same as the current air rb mode, largely ignoring the objective and it becoming like the flash game Age of War, where one side pushes the other team to their runway and vice versa. Any ideas on how you plan to incentivize players to break from the old habits they have?
Additionally the coast feels rather empty currently, can you mention and ideas you have to make the water feel more part of the conflict on the map?
And finally are you planning on implementing AI helicopters as a test for aircraft in the mode, since while they may overpreform they are still helicopters so they wont be too fast.
