Nuclear Escalation Returns!

I really had a lot of fun with the russians and i think that’s the feeling NATO should feel while playing too. GBU39 wipe out stationary sams and depot just fine even right now, if the buk get nerfed and convoy AA became vulnerable to ARMs then it should be nearly perfect IMO.

That oh so pretty words that BVVD, I’d just celebrate if WT dies because I would know BVVD would need to look up how to make a roof out of tinfoil, even after I spent money and countless hours on it.

A game with enormous potential, ironed out for people who aren’t actually passionate about it.

If only it was just that. I loaded my 27SM with four 31PD’s (mind you - just four, not six like other flankers can), then took off, fired off all of them from like 300m alt and 400kmh speed, immidiately belly landed and reloaded, repeat.

What that resulted in is on the picture attached. Note the timestamps.

How is bluefor supposed to do anything about it is beyond me. Let alone doing the same with HARMs, lol, imagine that.

Nuclear Thunder Event Feedback

English Version

After spending a significant amount of time playing the Nuclear Thunder event, I’d like to share my feedback. The mode has enormous potential, but in its current state it still feels far from being ready.

1. Rewards (Silver Lions & Research Points)

During the first 48 hours of the very first event, the rewards were excellent. The amount of Silver Lions and Research Points earned was comparable to what players could earn in Realistic Battles for the same amount of time invested. It felt rewarding and worth playing.

Unfortunately, after those first two days, the economy changed dramatically.

The spawn costs have become completely unreasonable. Earning only around 16,000 Silver Lions after a one-hour match simply isn’t worth the time invested. In its current state:

  • Premium players earn very little considering the time spent.
  • Non-premium players can actually lose huge amounts of Silver Lions.

At the moment, there is very little reason to play this game mode from an economic perspective. The rewards should be comparable to those in Realistic Battles based on the duration of the match.


2. SPAA Balance

The frontline SPAAs are currently far too effective.

They intercept almost every bomb, every ARM missile, and aircraft with incredible efficiency. During the first 48 hours of the original event, they were much more balanced and players actually had a chance to survive.

Now, every match follows exactly the same pattern:

  • Take off.
  • Launch your ARM missiles.
  • Land.
  • Repeat.

This simply isn’t engaging gameplay.

Only towards the end of the match, when fewer SPAAs remain alive, does it finally become possible to enjoy proper air-to-air combat.

Another issue is that many frontline SPAAs appear to have their radar turned off, yet they still detect and engage aircraft with perfect accuracy. This feels both unrealistic and frustrating.


3. Aircraft Weapons

Aircraft that historically carried nuclear bombs should have access to them in this game mode.

A good solution would be to allow players to research Nuclear Thunder-exclusive modifications for those aircraft.

Additional missile systems or tactical ballistic weapons designed specifically for this event could also improve the gameplay by making ground attacks more effective.

These modifications should remain exclusive to Nuclear Thunder and should not affect the standard game modes.


4. Strategic Bombers

Strategic bombers such as:

  • B-2 Spirit
  • Avro Vulcan
  • Tu-160

would be excellent additions to this game mode.

There are still many aspects that need improvement, but the concept itself has enormous potential.

Personally, I think a simpler first step would have been to create a Realistic game mode based on the existing Simulator mechanics .

I believe many players would enjoy having a dedicated air mode where they could build a lineup of several aircraft, similar to Ground Battles, instead of being limited to a single spawn.

That alone would already have been a very welcome addition to War Thunder while Nuclear Thunder is being fully developed.


5. Overall Thoughts

Nuclear Thunder has enormous potential.

I believe every Battle Rating from Rank III onwards should eventually become available.

However, making the gameplay frustrating or overly punishing will only drive players away from the mode.

The mode should offer a healthy balance between:

  • Air-to-ground combat.
  • Air-to-air combat.

The economy should also reflect the time invested, just as it does in Realistic Battles.

Regarding spawn costs, I believe aircraft should follow a system similar to Ground Battles:

  • The longer a player survives, the higher the spawn cost becomes.
  • However, there should be a reasonable maximum limit.
  • Spawn costs should never become so expensive that players finish a match without making any meaningful profit.

This is, of course, only my personal opinion.

I sincerely hope Gaijin will listen to the community’s feedback and move this mode in the right direction. Nuclear Thunder has the potential to become a very enjoyable and unique addition to War Thunder, bringing much-needed variety to the game.

Well, that’s a disaster. Gaijin miraculously created a game mode that people liked and then destroyed it after months of development and testing. As usual. I am done with War Thunder

im just losing silver , no activity reward , lost 500k silver in 3 hour , damn meh
400k silver was about my skill issue
but economy of this event is just about to ruin your silvers …

You should go higher, theyve just implemented new function that ramjet missile use less fuel in high altitude. Actually its a huge factor, YJ91 can only go 20km at sealevel but at least 40km at 4km alt. start.

Yeah I was very frustrated, so the “Evading with lowering altitude” part was kinda came out of nowhere. But still, even if it’s easy, B team players have to notch against BUK system the entire game and it’s unsurprisingly unfair.
Anyway thanks for the criticism and new idea. speaking of idea, what kind of armament you’d like to suggest for surpassing Air defenses? I don’t have any nice idea about it because only spamming munitions seems effective

Ship damage model broken, 6 rounds slavo YJ91 hit a single point and just black a module and nothing. I dont think they design to work like that in otl. In sea power 2 or 3 YJ91 hit can sink a 956.

They should downright close the game mode. It’s neither fun, engaging in gameplay or rewards, and definitely not well put together.

Not missing out on much really

You’ll be happier you don’t waste anything on it. First match, flew up, nothing suspicious on RWR, fired a missile, died to BUK not using radar. Left immediately after.

I don’t understand how the game devs don’t understand how awful it is to play the event from the NATO side. This event is basically unplayable using NATO jets. you get fired on by BUKs as soon as you take off, meanwhile your own AA systems only work at closer ranges. when i played in my SM2 i could fly around without any real danger other than other jets or flying too close to the AA.
Using the AESA EF2000, i couldn’t event get close enough to any ground targets to be able to use bombs, and even when trying to fight other players, my aim120s get intercepted by the AA.

Unfun, broken, and not worth your time playing this mode unfortunately. Another Gaijin L

One more thing I forgot to mention before. You still get connected to battles which are almost over. And cant do anything about it besides leaving. Pretty sure this wouldnt be necessary if mode had more presets, free vehicles and better economy.

idk what they was testing in two week

  • Spawned in on airfield
  • Took off with air to ground loadout
  • Found the closest frontline with a convoy of tanks and SPAA
  • Domed by BUK before I can get the first missile off at the convoy.

Ah yes i love waiting 5 *****minutes to spawn in a aircraft again

You can simply choose another airfield and it’ll let you spawn in again right away.

I would give feedback, but Gaijin doesn’t care about what I have to say. Russian side will always be better somehow. Faster ARMs, SPAA with guns, BUK spam is real. Whatever.
