Having effectively no armor to top tier enemy rounds versus having effective armor against even a round that isn’t even on the contemporary tank. That’s not balance.
Balance in what areas? The M1 does not outpace it’s contemporaries - Trying to mention reverse speed is a more nuanced pick, btw. Didn’t have comparable lethality before the BR change and still doesn’t have it now. Has essentially zero effective armor compared the more mainstream contemporaries.
But right, sure, balanced… Right. No, it actually isn’t.
M774 often fails to penetrate the T-72A, a vehicle a full 4 br levels below it. M833 would be very nice to have in the M1. It is also the correct round that it was using for the majority of it’s service time.
Yes it is.
You’re still looking at a single metric, ignoring all the positives and immediately get the conclusion that things aren’t balanced. Every vehicle would look unbalanced if you keep the tunnel-vision on it’s negative.
Balance involves giving a vehicle enough killing power to actually be treated as a threat from first spawn. A T72A does with its top tier mod round, even in an uptier, which is the go-to of all tanks fitted with 125mm upwards from it.
The M1 and M1 KVT don’t fit that criteria with only the M774.
Try reading up, M1’s pros/cons have been posted several times by multiple people.
Against 2A4 it has better armor profile and reload, but has a worse shell.
Against 80B it has better mobility, gun handling, gun depression, ammo compartmentalization, reload speed, but has worse armor and shell.
This is TLDR of M1 vs it’s two biggest rivals, looks like M1 is trading blows with them.
It does, reverse speed is just a bonus.
But has a faster reload than the others. Looks like balance to me.
@RavenGuardMarine
M1 isn’t a top tier vehicle, so why are you bringing up top tier here ?
And you’re once again overly fixating on one, single metric.
By the way, M774 can kill any 10.7 vehicle from any angle, so you thinking M1 with M774 isn’t a threat is nothing more than a you problem.
“Noooo, my 10.7 vehicle (T-80B) has trash gun depression and gun handling of a literal 8.3 tank, I want to be put in line with other tanks at my BR. Just look at XM-1, at 9.3 it has amazing gun depression and gun handling, I want that for my shiny tank as well” - Russian Dinfire
This means every Russian player has TEN possible spawns (two purchaseable) to bring to the fight that carry a round capable of treating a M1 like Swiss cheese at close ranges (which we all agree is most maps).
To even have more, a US player must buy back-ups, or include the M1 KVT in its line-up for money.
That’s just USSR versus US.
Remind me again where the balance is. Is it in the room with us?
I mean we’ve highlighted the many advantages the M1 has over the russian vehicles it faces and the reason why russian tanks generally have superior frontal armour and penetration multiple times already and from many different people. At this point I think it’s a fruitless endeavour as they simply can’t wrap their heads around the concept of tanks having more than a singular aspect which defines them.
At this point you seem incapable of wrapping your brain around the thought of facing 10 possible opponents in one single tech tree line with firepower enough to make your M1 useless.
If you’re at close range you should not have any problems hitting the LFP, idler, drivers port or breech of russian tanks and you have a faster reload and superior mobility to work with which they do not. This is one of the reasons the US was the favourite nation in the latest ground tournament despite the maps being all close quarters city maps.
The balance is there, just because you can’t understand a very simple concept of tanks being balanced around different capabilities doesn’t change that. The fact that the M1 remains at its BR unchanged for such a time period whilst being highly played also indicates that.
You’re no longer making an argument on the balance of individual vehicles here anyway, you’re making an argument of line-ups.
Since thunderskill was brought up earlier by one of the US mains I’ll bring it up again since you may have missed it.
And again with his ammo talk. Try looking at other pros/cons of those tanks you mentioned, it might just enlighten you.
It’s right in front of you, but you fail to see it. Now you’ve changed your angle to target lineups, which isn’t the topic of this thread. M1 as a vehicle is more than fine to deal with 10.7 enemies.
Again moving the goal post to lineups, which isn’t the topic here.
Gaijin please buff my already strong tank because my lineup is crap.
That’s a hot take if I ever seen one lol.
Vehicles should be balanced over things they can do, not what their lineups can do.
Because line-ups matter as well, I’m sorry that doesn’t fit your narrative that M833 is unreasonable to ask for.
You’re absolutely misguided if you think gaijin are going to start buffing already well performing vehicles because of lack of line-ups at the BR it is at. Vehicles are at large balanced based on their individual performance, which the M1 is evidently doing fine in otherwise it would have been moved already.
I simply said I wish we’d get some of that at top tier. Wasnt some super point, more a joking manner.
However, if top tier really isn’t relevant, then you should retract your earlier statement when the heat map was discussed you wrongly concluded that top tier was the one really suffering when the map clearly shows it’s basically Russia and the U.S. who suffer at 10.0 and top tier and was relevant to 10.0 and you brought up top tier.
Seemed like a bad faith analysis to discard what was being discussed and deflect to top tier to pull away that it really only shows 2 nations “suffering” at 10.0+
