North Holland: A New Location for Ground Battles!

Why do Gaijin focus on places where war has not taken place? 60s USA ,Sun City ,Modern Holland etc what could be less immersive?

How about a battlefield that looks like a battlefield of which there have been a thousand over the last 100 years?

What’s next? Buckingham Palace? Sydney Opera House? Disney Land? The Blackpool Pleasure Beach landings?

War games don’t care where they take place.
They should take place in diverse climates and terrain/building features.
That’s immersive.

I already have. I compliment Poland, Ardennes, European, Big Tunisia, Carpathians, El Alamein, Red Desert kinda, and a few others. I’ve already praised multiple maps.

I shouldn’t have to give praise for them every time we have to complain about maps being made smaller or focusing more on urban or CQC.

Well quite obviously they do.

Yeah I just named a few for the next set of maps. Can’t wait for a tank duel around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge :)

We’ve had a number of large maps added in the last year.
Having the first good large urban map added in a long time is a good thing.

North Holland will hopefully be popular and maybe some of the worse urban maps are removed/remade.

I agree that there is room for urban maps and I include a few among my favorites, mostly WW2.I hate to see them butchered, but why do the Netherlands and base it on modern Amsterdam when you have Arnhem or Nijmegen?

So many places and they did that one.

They dont even need to date a map or even name the place if they are scared of causing offence to the Woke Police. Its just plain odd.

are we looking at different things here?
because “holland” is on the same level of lazy and horrible map design as sun city is, just instead of skyscrapers and shooting alleys, you get red brick houses and shooting alleys now, on top of 80% being copy+paste for another map, which in turn is pretty much a CQC only map in itself.

i will give gaijins map creators “credit” when they actually push out a good map for once.
now see, flanders had the potential to be good but they again not only recently shrunk it down and restricted flanks, they also made the whole middle a peak-a-boo ridge that cant be flanked, that is NOT good map design.

i will ban this abomination of a map right away, sending a message and all.

i rather player ground zero, frozen pass or dreaded sun city then this horrible and cobbled together mess.

I’m curious. What’s your standard for “immersive”? Because to me, a tank battle happening in a pristine, modern Western European town is the opposite of immersive. If you think back to some old maps like Berlin, Normandy (especially before the rework), Stalingrad, Ardennes, Advance to the Rhine, even some newer ones like Abandoned Town and Breslau, they actually feel like a war is going on and a battle is taking place. They are pockmarked by destroyed or damaged buildings, artillery craters, and general damage. That is pretty immersive for a place where a tank battle is.

Honestly a city map with an American-style mall that you could break the walls of and drive around on the inside of would be cool. It probably would add little to nothing to actual gameplay, and serve more as a detriment to anyone who drives through it, but it would be cool

As a tanker who fought in Ar Ramadi against terrorists, I can assure you, the threat level doesn’t change.

Tanks are still the worst enemy you could fight in urban fights. One good ambush position to blockade a road is all you need to cause a huge traffic event that won’t be easy to flank.

Combine that with the number of players who blob and faceplant caps, you’re going to see a lot more chipped teeth.

Now, are infantry the biggest threat? Yes, as we have seen over and over throughout the last few months in another region.

But are infantry coming to War Thunder outside special events? I would hope not, because then you might as well start upping the ticker to an hour of gameplay with both sides being absolutely wiped if an SU-25 or A10 does a run, or God forbid a Paveway makes a visit.

Nevertheless, I grant you, the map seems pretty. I’m personally needing an upgrade to my GPU and stuff after the last update did something to the EAC launcher and kept dumping on me.

Flanders is good for tank tactics, but it requires that people pay attention. (Not ever gonna happen across the board, but there it is all the same.)

If you can make Eastern Europe without the need for towns or cities, and space caps in defilade that would allow for last stands, you’d see more and more folks attempting both short and long flanks.

That is, if they have the patience.

Still, I’m here for the duration, Stona.

If you think this is lazy, then you think lowly of all game devs.
And you have a lie in your post, you’re not giving them credit for this good map that was built from the ground up.
Flanders size is identical to its release, nothing has changed.

You even say you ban all the good maps…

@S3b5
War games don’t take place in just “war-torn” areas. So this is objectively immersive.
A place that becomes war-torn over the time of a war-game.

Careful what you wish for and I should be careful what a I jokingly suggest. :)

Same water direction =/= not built from the ground up.
Topography as well as city design itself are entirely different. It’s a canal able to be traversed as well rather than a deep river.
It changes tactics entirely for the new map.
