G’day lads. I want to suggest a high tier - top tier SAM for China, featuring 12 missiles going up to 35G, advanced searching and much more, all of which can be found on the Sky Dragon 12 SAM :)

The SKY DRAGON 12 SAM system, developed by NORINCO, is designed for air defense of critical points and can intercept various aerial threats such as aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, UAVs, and precision-guided weapons. The system launches high-speed missiles that can reach a range of up to 15 kilometers. It uses a two-dimensional phase-array tracking-guidance radar combined with a radio command guidance system and an electro-optic tracking device. The launcher can hold up to 12 missiles, and it boasts strong multi-target engagement, ultra-low-altitude target interception, and anti-jamming capabilities. Each launcher can fire and guide 4 missiles simultaneously, engaging 4 aerial targets at once. It is highly maneuverable and can be transported by train for easy deployment.

Key features include a missile velocity of at least 1100m/s and a maximum overload of up to 35G. The system can engage 4 batches of aerial targets simultaneously, with radar and electro-optic tracking systems launching and guiding 4 missiles to intercept. It effectively tracks and hits low-flying helicopters with excellent anti-jamming performance. The three-dimensional searching radar enables autonomous air defense missions or integration into a higher-level air defense system. Specifications include a crew of 3, radar/electro-optic tracking guidance with radio command transmission, missile canister-launch, and oblique launching. The search radar operates in the C band with a maximum detection range of 30km for aircraft targets and 15km for cruise missile targets, with a maximum detection height of 6000 meters. The tracking-guidance radar has a range of at least 15km, and the EO tracker has a range of at least 12km. The missile killing zone ranges from 2km to 12km in distance (however the missile has a 15km range) and 15m to 5km in height, with a maximum missile velocity of at least 1100m/s. The single missile killing probability for fighter/helicopter targets in the main killing zone is at least 0.80, with the system capable of intercepting 4 targets simultaneously.

The Sky Dragon 12, also known as Tianlong-12, is a short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by the Chinese defense company NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation). The system was first unveiled during the Africa Aerospace and Defense (AAD) exhibition in South Africa in September 2014.

While there is barely history about this vehicle, some changes can be seen, most visible on the missile. In 2014, it was said that it only had a 12km range, meanwhile according to a 2017 NORINCO brochure, it is now 15km, meaning that they still had the vehicle even after the exhibition. After that, it wasn’t seen again, aside from an article that was posted in 2024 talking about the Sky Dragon 12, but it is not stated if those were taken during that year, and after matching photos, it looks like it is the same Sky Dragon system show in 2014.

Sadly, the dimensions and weight of the Sky Dragon 12 system is not known, but it is known that it’s mounted on a Shaanxi SX2400 8x8 truck chassis, WHICH ALSO DOESN’T HAVE ANY INFO ABOUT IT, therefore I have to use the SX2300, which is similar, so I’ll give the dimensions, weight and engine about it instead (but please note that it can be higher and more heavy due to the system mounted on it). Anyway, it has a length of 10.1m, a width of 2.5m and a height of 3.1m. It’s curb weight is around 13 tons, meanwhile the gross weight is 30 tons. The engine it has is a ISM11E4 440, made by Xi’an Cummins Engine Co., Ltd, which generates 433hp. This makes it go up to 85km/h.
