also PL-01 when?

Agree it was somewhat new-ish but it was not entirely ‘new’. It used Chieftain hull design as basis and was constructed of aluminum. But it was more evolutionary than Chally-1.
Project codename was “Almagest”. Cancelled in 1972 (When UK joined Germany for next MBT, before cancelling even that and start MBT-80 project).
Why Aluminum? Coz the first idea was to mount the new Burlington armor (later Chobham) onto Chieftains. But the weight crossed 60+ tons even before 1970s. So, the Aluminum base was chosen hence, “Aluminum Chieftain”, aka Chieftain Mk. 5/2, receiving designation FV 4211.
But why abandon Aluminum for Shir-2/Chally-1? Coz Iran was concerned of stress/cracking of aluminum hull and wanted steel + Burlington*****. And required a more powerful engine to offset the increased weight. Hence Iran insisted on the 1200hp CV12.

MBT-80 was planned as wholly new tank, not a Chieftain derivative nor any link to it.
But during the program various Chieftain-based test platforms were used.
(i.e just trying to conclude here, the MBT-80 test hulls were related to Chieftains/Shir but were not to be the final design of MBT-80. MBT-80 would have totally different hull and turret design. Only that MBT-80 could’ve ended-up utilizing Aluminum in its construction, as was planned, but not absolutely certain, as material science was always evolving)

Shir-1 and Shir-2 were pretty much Chieftain derivatives. Global incidents led Shir-2 to become Challenger-1 and later only the hull of Chally-2 being related to it and now Chally-3 will push with the same’ol design. Hence many British analyst and experts still support the idea of Leo 2 hulls for Chally 3. Chally 2/3 turrets are still relatively new but the hulls are nearly ancient.

*****US was not informed of Burlington being offered for Iran. They weren’t much aware of Burlington’s characteristics at the time.
Here is GM XM-1, before Chrysler, GM & XM-1 project manager’s visit to UK, 1973:

and after the UK visit:

Both Chrysler and GM made number of changes to the armor layout after the UK visit and understanding Burlington armor there. GM had to make more changes than Chrysler.

Gripen E, Gaijin please I beg of you.

Only if they can actually get it correct, considering the Gripen C’s are still pages beyond pages of broken despite bug reports with gaijin simply stating they have no interest in accuracy.

So ill wait for the Gripen NG and see if they can fix that before adding the next beyond fictional aircraft thats held back to fit gaijins year old meta.

gripen E pribabaly when japan gets the f-2 and usa gets f16 block 70

Again maybe? Unlikely seems more likely gaijin will add Gripen NG so that Sweden can have a competitive fighter with a decent amount of Fox 3’s while it still would fit the current Meta.

Gaijin has no plans to give any of the Gripens C’s the radar they uses nor upgrade them to fit with the new 14.0’s, additionally gaijin has yet to fix the additional pylon for CAS thus cutting their performance for multirole. I have no interest to see a grimped gripen E when they could add the NG and actually try to make it accurate.

Additionally the F-2 IMO has been overdue for a while. No reason it cant be added with the NG, and this is before gaijin works on new 5th gen IR missiles and so on.

what exactly is gripen NG? ,Is it just a gripen-C witrh good radar and missile count ?

Its the basis for the Gripen E, it was essentially the tech demonstrator. Its bigger and has the new engine with the additional hardpoints. So as it stands gaijin can add it with later AIM 120’s as it can mount them while leaving the Gripe E for the Meteor and IRIS-T, yes the NG used the Meteor and IRIS-T but considering Gaijin again has no plans to buff the Gripen C and since sweden is the only nation stuck with the C its unfair to just do that but gaijin doesnt see a reason. Again this is thanks to me spamming Smin about wveru question as to why the Gripen is in its current state. So i chose the NG as gaijin hopefully will actually try this time and actually make a decent Gripen for the current Meta. 7 hardpoints for radar and 2 for IRCCM missile is fairly good id say considering the EFT for BWVVR can only use 6 radar missile points and the Rafale only has 8 air to air pylons it would be a pretty interesting addition considering the poor state the C is in.

i think gripen c needs to have a decompression to br 13.3. when we get the f18C and su30sm this upcomming major update , sweden gets gripen NG to 14.0
