T-90M tanks will finally receive T09-A6-1 Arena-M active protection systems (APS).
TASS reports this with reference to contracts concluded on the sidelines of the Army-2024 forum.
"The corresponding state contracts for the supply of the modernized BM-2 combat vehicle, the modernized TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system on the T-80 base chassis with the development of design documentation, T-90M tanks with the T09-A6-1 active protection kit were presented on the sidelines of the Army-2024 forum by the head of the Main Directorate of Armaments of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Gulyayev to the deputy general director of Uralvagonzavod Dmitry Semizorov - the publication reports.
The saga of putting the APS into service for domestic armored vehicles has been going on for several decades and reached the finish line only at the end of the last decade, when the Arena-M began to be tested (https://tass.ru/armiya-i-opk/3953089) on T-72B3 UBH tanks (Telegram: Contact @milinfolive), which passed these very tests in 2023 (Telegram: Contact @milinfolive).
We hope that the Arena-M KAZ will be delivered in a modernized version to combat drones, the modification of which was discussed (Telegram: Contact @milinfolive) in February of this year during the visit of the former head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu to the Machine-Building Design Bureau in Kolomna, since the key threat to armored vehicles on the modern battlefield is FPV drones, and only then “classic” RPGs and ATGMs.
Huh, I hope for real this time. I have seen this exact diagram in April last year.
Edit: Not just exact this, but actual this one (from the same TG channel)
This been reported quite a while back but still haven’t been implemented … not a single prototype still
They just signed a contract in today’s news, so the prototype will likely come.

T-72B3 (Arena-M)
- T-72B3 equipped with Arena-M Hardkill APS during testing, only a prototype.
- Capable of destroying many modern guided munitions.
- Note, none seen equipped with Relikt ERA and only use Kontact-5 ERA.
- Estimated BR: 11.3-11.7
- Edit:
- Current pending suggestions:
- (RU) BMP-3 ‘Manul’
- Improved BMP-3 with TKB-945 Bumerang-BM unmanned combat module, 3UBR11 APFSDS-T, ceramic addon armor, and UTD-32T 660hp diesel engine. @aDSD
- Estimated BR: 10.3-10.7
- (RU) BMP-3 4S24 NKDZ
- BMP-3 with 2K23 Complex, Sodema thermal imager, 3UBR11 APFSDS-T, and Karkas-II ERA (4S24) Kit.
- Estimated BR: 10.0-10.3
- (RU) BTR-22 (BTR-82A Improved)
- Improved BTR-82A design with BPPU combat module, 3UBR11 APFSDS-T, all-around 12.7mm protection, front-mounted YaMz 536 330hp diesel engine, and can mount the BTR-BM ‘Ballista’ combat module.
- Estimated BR: 9.0-9.7 (Module dependent)
- (UA) Object 478BME2 (Drozd)
- Export BM Oplot zr. 1999 brought down to the T-80UD standard for the United States. Retains the 6TD-2 1,200hp diesel engine and automatic transmission capable of 32km/h in reverse, Kontact-5 ERA, Drozd Hardkill-APS, and passive-IR optics (same optics found on T-80UD).
- Could come to both an Ukraine Ground Forces Tree and as a US event vehicle.
- Estimated BR: 10.7-11.0
- (UA) T-64BV (Zaslin)
- An experimental T-64BV equipped with two Zaslin hard-kill APS modules that provide protection against ATGM’s, HEAT rounds, APFSDS-T rounds, and solid-core rounds. Reaction time of 0.001-0.005 seconds and an azimuth/elevation angle of 150-degrees. Mounted on the center-sides of the vehicle, 2x cartridges per side. Other than the APS, just a standard T-64BV.
- Could be a Ukraine Tree Event vehicle.
- Estimated BR: 10.0
- (RU) BMP-3 ‘Manul’
- May do a suggestion on the T-72B3 (Arena-M) or the T-72B3 obr. 2022 (Arena-M) w/ Relikt ERA which would be at BR 11.7.
- Waiting for a BM Oplot (Object 478DU10) to physically equip Zaslin APS and will do a suggestion on that. Estimated BR: 11.7 (w/ TAPNA APFSDS-T too).
- Current pending suggestions:
Yes! Always could use more mustangs!!!
Yes!!! I’ve wanted this for so long!!
Some gun traverse should be there but not entirely sure, tbh
That’s just a T-72M1 underneath
Does this T-72M1 have mockup electronics/equipment or is it a T-72M1 that’s been upgraded to a similar B3-standard?
I’m not sure what equipment it uses specifically, its one of the many T-72M1M modernisation projects for export. So probably not identical to B3 equipment, but the fcs and optics are modernised to some level.
XP-1 prototype
Spoiler
The XP-2
At some point of the XP-1’s development, the design team had designed a variant of the XP-1 designated the “XP-2”「研驅二式」. Details and differences of this variant compared to the XP-1 are unknown, but certain sources suggest that it saw a change in power-plant. Rather than the original Wright Aeronautical SGR-1820 Cyclone radial engine, the XP-2 was alleged to have an unspecified “Wasp” model engine capable of producing 825 hp (615 kW). Other sources suggest that the engine would be the same, and the majority of modifications would be done to the airframe.
