On a case-by-case basis, obviously. Some aircraft are better than most, but the improvement is there. Not everyone can scream across the map like Eurofighter or Rafale can
This is always going to be an ongoing thing. The big part is only a small portion of the community plays Sim (where stuff like this matters), so it’s not an end of the world priority.
I must be imagining the AIM-120C-5s being launched at me from 45-50 km then…
Ah! Something we can agree on, especially after the changes to missiles this patch. We will have to wait and see (spoiler: it will be like the first day Fox-3 missiles dropped for everyone where everyone drops likes flies in the first days) how everything meshes together. Of course, I predict a BR bump for a lot of aircraft, especially the ‘safe’ 14.0 aircraft like F-15E or Mirage 2000-5F or by some miracle, the Su-30s of 13.3. We may have even 2 sets of BR decompression by end of year.
In fact @quartas121, I said shortly before the Rafale was added, that it doesn’t need to come, mainly because I was concerned that they would not fix the MICAs for a long while if it was on a better platform versus on a more limited airframe like the Mirage 2000.
Ha, this one is especially funny.
2026 is coming to an end and yet IRST’s, even the more modern ones, barely do anything.
“Fusing” with the radar/rwr?
Decent detection/lock ranges?
TWS???
Hell, even some kind of C-scope that is AT LEAST somewhat more readable than the current one would have been a great upgrade. Yet here we are, discussing 5th gens.
Not proper sensor fusion there is a sort of sensor fusion lite on a few aircraft. Some with MAWS can distinguish between IR and radar guided missiles and dispense the needed type of CM on it’s own. Off the top of my head I know the Typhoons (except for Italy’s), Harrier GR.7 and Rafale have it.
Yep. Even funnier when you add on external IRSTs that were added and then quickly removed
This I really dont get, because its just a radar in the code I think. So I dont know why having usable IRST would be that difficult, and probably not OP given the BRs involved
Eh… I suppose, though that is just “is there an RWR signal from the same direction?”
if yes drop chaff, if no drop flares.
and its missing from quite a few aircraft, like even the Tornado GR4 should be able to do that iirc.
Sensor fusion to me is more like, being able to use radar and IRST at the same time. Being able to direct radar and/or IRST onto a RWR or MAWS contact. Direct Tpods onto an ESM contact (if/when we get ESM)
Even something as small as switching from C-scope to B-scope would make them infinitely more useful, given that most if not all IRST’s at 12.0+ explicitly do have ranging ability implemented, unlike the earlier ones.
