@Smin1080p_WT When can we expect to see a fix regarding this hmd zoom bug? It is still a major problem in sim. Its been nearly a year since it was issued on a war thunder issues site. Community Bug Reporting System

Doubt

Acting like Germany would actually get something good

trust the process, it’s a long one though

Doesn’t have to be tied to sensors (unless you count the pilots eyes as sensors lol)

But yes, they should work on modelling line-of-sight and a more reasonable maximum detection range

It should be tied to sensors if being shared to the rest of your team with any more detail than what the “air alert” quick message gives.

So you might get a marker at reasonable ranges, for a target actually in LoS, but your teammate that is 30km away and definetly doesnt have LoS, maybe shouldnt when the marker is being made by the Mk1 eyeball alone

The game isn’t competitive/teamplay focussed for that

If one player has info, it should be shared with the rest of the team without them having to communicate beyond maybe doing a quick chat call

Also, only having the shared info on top tier planes seems counter-intuitive

The shared info is more needed on less advanced planes lol

How Id do it is this.

Player only markers (so markers you can see, but not one else on your team can see):

  • Markers generated by your sensors (radar and IRST)
  • Markers generated by your pilots vision (limited by LoS and range and FoV of that aircraft). (more as an offset for rendering issues and screen sizes than anything else)

Markers shared by teammates:

  • Markers generated by teammate sensors (whether this should only be aircraft capable of recieving this information is a different conversation)

  • Markers generated by your pilot “communicating” that information, but these should be limited in available data (just a marker, nothing else) and only be “communicated” if you are within a reasonable proximity of the target as well, not the other side of the map. Could also be marked on the map.

But markers shared by a pilot “communicating” the information shouldnt last long, and if the target breaks LoS, then it just shows the INS positions of the target for a few seconds and then disappears

markers generated by sensors could also be “communicated” instead of being shared in real time.

Markers shared by AI Ground/airbourne EW radar:

  • These should be shown to all players whilst that radar is active and that target is within range of said radar, but if the radar is destroyed, the markers disappear straight away.

That I think would be a reasonable mix of realism and gameplay.

it is and it isnt though. The only defence for something like a Buc is being sneaky, in ASB you can reliably sneak past the enemy team and do something, in ARB, you are usually intercepted before you can, not because you are spotted by anyones radar, but because of markers. It also heavily negates the advantage of even having a radar or RWR on lower BR aircraft, something like the Sea Vixen, I usually just have the radar switched off, I dont really need it at all.

@StormRyder13 we could be in for a chance lol

You’re forgetting the Lisunov Li-2, the only one w/ armament currently

Greek C-47 with bombs when???

I really wouldn’t focus so much on modern technologies and radars

The higher tier vehicles have less of a need for the markers than the lower tier vehicles, limiting “better” markers to higher tiers is backwards when it comes to why markers even are a thing

There definitely is a lot that can be done to improve the marker system, but limiting the ability of lower tier planes to share positional info makes no sense from a gameplay point of view

That just straight up wouldn’t be the case, if markers were improved. Even now, unless someone gets spotted too early, radars and RWRs still are great tools in ARB

I feel like you are approaching this as if all maps were entirely flat and detection ranges couldn’t be limited to a reasonable distance

I’m not saying radars shouldn’t make spotting “more effective”, I’m just saying that your idea of limiting spotting on lower end planes is too extreme

Except the issue is that even on maps with terrain, terrain masking isnt enough to actually hide from the enemy team. They almsot always know you are there. So in something like a Jaaaaag which is basically reliant on such tactics to actually get to the target… its a pointless tactic to even attempt.

And quite frankly… most of the maps are flat and open .

Its more about making having a radar worthwhile, like for a good long while in ARB, during the early days of CAPTOR-M, its shockingly bad performance wasnt that big of a deal because you just used HMD mode to lock onto a target and forget that the TWS even existed. Iw as told more than once to just do this, even when I was talking about ASB, as a lot of players just have 0 concept of having to locate the target via a radar first.

Hey Smin, are you excited for next major?

i dont think so

that is usually the time where he gets pinged the most

Can’t relate, forums are my main source of social interactions so a ping always makes me happy
But maybe Smin has friends

So TLDR from BVV_d’s post:

128 x 128km NE map from existing game map (South Eastern City) - Separate event test coming before the next major update

New types of objectives for restoring friendly AA/rebuilding airfields with cargo helicopters - Some aspects may come in the next major update
Potential for cargo planes - Future potential
New gameplay beyond destroying ground and air targets - Some aspects may come in the next major update

Functioning Early Warning Radars - No timeframe mentioned

Refinements to the bomber damage rework - Coming soon
Improving IR seeker logic (to target sources of heat instead of centre of aircraft bounding box) - Coming soon

New graphical improvements - Coming in the the major update
New ammunition type - Coming in the the major update
