Perhaps they could start implementing technological elements of FCSs to make modern MBTs feel modern.
For example; HUD elements could pop up on detected enemy vehicles; tracking could be implemented, even with lead, etc.
I know some people dislike the idea, or at least that was the case a few years ago, but I think it would be great if 2020s MBTs felt different from the 1990s ones, and technology is the only way to achieve this.
From a gameplay point of view, you wouldn’t want to take too much of the manual aiming process away from the player.
If everything gets automatically ranged and the game even gives you a lead indicator, the game turns into a glorified point-and-click adventure.
Isnt that basically what modern tank vs tank combat largely is though?
But I was thinking as an alternative to the lead incidactor, rather than in addition to it.
Rangefinder > laser rangerfinder > modern rangefinder
or something like that
Just a way to make more modern vehicles feel different to older ones. Even if it still had a bit of a lag, like 1 second. It basically removes a single keybind.
This is a game, what real life tank vs tank combat is like has nothing to do with WT.
WTs tank combat isn’t even remotely realistic anyways lol
As mentioned before, there isn’t much you can do there, outside of some visuals and maybe some HUD upgrades.
There have to be ways to make vehicles feel more modern without having them do almost everything for you.
That “single keybind” already is one of the very few keybinds that you actually need in most MBTs.
You could tie that automatic rangefinding to a target selection feature, which would tie into the modern FCS stuff, making something feel more modern doesn’t have to involve getting rid of things that the player has to on his own.
Would a tank that does almost everything for you feel more modern? Sure.
Would that make the gameplay more engaging? Not at all, it makes the gameplay less engaging.
is also a weird they will use F414 engines on it i belive so dont expect this to be like a super plane that would be f47 but im also guessing northtops prototype wont be thrown away
Some of my ideas to make modern vehicles feel more modern:
It wouldn’t really change anything about the tanks themselves, but I feel like the artillery at higher tiers could be upgraded to MLRS strikes.
Light tanks should also get to choose between the regular UAV and the Quadcopter UAV that they had in the Mobile Infantry mode a couple of years back (that Quadcopter UAV is still in the files and you can use it in testflight lol).
Something that would be cool, but probably not really possible, would be to let other players tap into an allies drone view.
Obviously modern gunner optics would help, but I feel like most people would prefer to use modded sights or custom sights through the sight editor. It would still add some flavour for those that choose to use them.
I fell like commander views could also use some upgrades, provided the tanks have “better” commander views.
The ability to “select” a target through FCS, similar to how planes can select a target in ARB, would also be neat. Having an optional lock-on tracking feature and automatic rangefinding for that target could be a neat idea.
No clue if modern tanks have rangefinders with the accuracy of LRFs, but without triggering LWSs, those should be implemented. I know that the PT-16/T14 Leo has a special LRF-like rangefinder that doesn’t use an actual laser.
As I’ve said before, I don’t think there should be a lead indicator against tanks though. You already don’t have to put much, if any, effort into ranging, it feels like taking the manual leading away as well would be a bit much.
should have keybinds (if not already) to switch LRF to human RF as Abrams for example has both and range finding and leading should be added its actually realistic
