Next Major Update - Rumor Roundup & Discussion (Part 1)

Somewhat works but the radar track isn’t that accurate so it’s best to fire around 4? Also, you have to be careful about how you maneuver as the targeting pod doesn’t have the same gimbal limits as the radar and so you can easily break the track.

No because that’d put NATO AD on par with RU. Jk lol.

Honestly, I think this could actually be a good thing.

I mean, Indonesia is reportedly gonna receive a few aircraft over the next couple of months, like the J-10CE, so there’s a pretty good chance spotters will get some pics of it. And honestly, that should be enough for Gaijin to consider adding it to WT, as long as the Chinese playerbase doesn’t make a fuss about it 💀

Also, if I’m not mistaken, Indonesia is supposedly leasing a few MiG-29S (9.13s?), which they’re rumored to receive sometime soon.

So yeah, there’s definitely a bright side to this, especially considering how short the gap between the November and December major updates is.

I meant more like multi-spectral smoke. CIWS Vehicles are cool but I don’t see most people playing whats essentially a gun-only AA at top tier thats only shtick is intercepting munitions, UCAV and helicopters (and maybe the occasional actual close air support). I’d love to play it and love to see it, but I don’t see it as a full or true universal counter to mmW weapons. Not everyone will own one, not everyone will have the crew to have a missile AA AND CIWS, not everyone will want to play one and one won’t always be up.

iirc they signed a letter of intent but they haven’t really pushed further than that. The M-346F letter of intent was around the same time and that deal has progressed since. @NFrost51 would be the best person to answer this though ^^

Do the Battlefield method and have AI controlled CWIS at each spawn and widen up the maps so we’re not playing a hop, skip, and jump away from each other…

AI-controlled CIWS is a nice idea but the maps would have to be much bigger than they are now.

Yes but I’d say bigger maps are needed first actually. There’s too many contradictions in GRB because they are not optimized for modern warfare.

CIWS are the best actual counter to the kind of CAS top tier has to deal with now.
Multispectral smokes would help about as much as regular smokes help currently: Barely at all.

Having to deploy smokes reveals your position and potentially ends up hindering your and your teammates ability to deal with enemy tanks. It’s pretty much a doubled edged sword.

CAS really never should have gotten to this point, as most NATO SAMs can’t deal with the planes that deliver the weapons and they don’t have enough missiles to intercept the huge load of missiles and bombs that get spammed…

About not everyone having access to one, we have the “free” vehicles now, a CIWS vehicle could be part of the selection that is available to everyone.

People not caring enough to play them is a seperate issue, but at least they would have the option to defend their team, if they actually cared about getting nuked by CAS :)

Maybe give top tier SAMs an additional CIWS to drop down as well, but we are getting to the point where you might as well let people control stationary AA that’s not located on tank playfield lol

If the rumors are true, this could actually be pretty interesting, since these MiG-29S/UBs would get avionics upgrades like an AESA radar, a better EW suite, and an IRST.

That would definitely make them a pretty unique MiG-29 variant thanks to those upgrades.

I agree with all of these points, except for the fact this isn’t a “universal counter” if you get what I mean. If I’m an MBT and I know I get targeted by IR/TV, then I can just smoke. If I get targeted by mmW, well, there’s nothing I can do. I can Air Alert or my teammates can, I’ve avoided many IR/TV guided munitions like this.

“hey this is cool, lets do it” mentality. If the US passed the approval of the F-15IDN (F-15EX for Indonesia) a few months earlier, I bet we’d see that too.

Dunno what to say tho. At the first time i was also suprised after looks at their Air force inventory.

It seems I’ve also started getting used to this.

I’m not against adding multispectral smokes, I didn’t intend to sound like I am.

It’s a real shame that Gaijin messed up the CAS vs AA (and tanks in general) balance so much that there really isn’t anything they can do to actually fix it.

Multispectral smokes sadly are just a band-aid for what is essentially a mortal wound at this point.

If the deal goes through and they include AESA, it would technically be the most advance Mig-29"in service" :v

I feel like that line of argument might hold more water if France’s ground tree had gotten more than 1.5 domestic designs in the past 5 updates. Since the EBRC the only other addition has been the EMBT, while we’ve seen a Leopard 1a5 that performs similarly to the German one, but required new modeling, and we’re seeing something similar on the SPAA side of things.

France has plenty of domestic designs and modifications of vehicles in game that woundn’t require completely new designs (AMX-13-105, AMX-30 Sabre, AMX-10 RAA, AMX-13 S533, AMX-13 DC-30, VAB VDAA) but we’re not seeing any og them added.

Between the very low inflow of French designs, and the fact that France is the only tree that doesn’t have a domestic French premium that can grind top tier air or ground, it really does feel as though the tree is on the back burner.

I imagine that by the time they’d enter service, the Indian MiG-29Ks will already have the Uttam AESA.
