Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion

Iris-t baseline has a max range of 25km for a2a engagements, of course, it depends on the model the missile.

25km MAX.

Effective range for the IRIS-T is going to be more like 10km, 15 at a push.

ASRAAM is more like 50km MAX, with an effective range probably around 20-30km depending on launch conditions

Yeah, but it seemed like the most likely point to make given his claim. Look im a Eurocanards fan and the Gripen is my favorite BUT i know its worse than the EFT especially given the heavier engine and larger body killed its flight performance for dogfighting. Its a BnZ fighter like the F15 sadly, because the Gripen E put all its points into the Arexis EW suite rather than anything else lmao. True development hell

Doesn’t captor E have a 180°+ radar gimbal? That’s pretty cracked

+/- 100 iirc off the top of my head. But so will the Gripen E. Though its only really a situational awarness buff. Given that maintaining the DL doesnt do as much as it would IRL. Its not like it will suddenly make the Aim-120C5s OP in long ranged BVR.

Spoiler

And if that is an issue, we could get CEASER which was the AESA trialed in 2008 which would be largely on par with the AESA in the Rafale already.

The issue is the CAPTOR-M just cant keep track of a single target half the time and the situational awareness is very poor, it would be fine if it got P-Track, but Gaijin wont add P-Track to M-Scans

I’ve been saying it as well, the Gripen E really isn’t that good in a setting like War Thunder.
The things that make the Gripen E good IRL just flat out don’t exist ingame lol

I mean same could be said about my nations beautiful F-35 WDNS, in game its a fighter forced into a strike fighter role which means you’re too slow to hit bases, you weigh the most of all Drakens and bleed speed like crazy and your A2A loadout has been nuked. Some vehicles work well irl because they serve a niche function but in warthunder those vehicles don’t always translate well.

Just how it goes unfortunately

in my opinion, J10C will be better than gripen E or at least a sidegrade

I think you’re downplaying the advantages of having a 180°+ radar a bit, makes it much better and easier re-engaging targets whilst defending, it also gives a big improvement to BVR (not that BVR matters too much in current meta). I’m not against it getting the AESA, but I don’t think Britain is suffering

If this is such a major issue, there is always CEASER (which, quite frankly we should ahve had from day one given the Rafale has AESA, not its PESA) that is just AESA like everyone elses. But the Gripen E will have the same Gimball and so teh same advantage.

never said it is, but…

Come on, its been a year now and we still have basic issues untouched. Like our HUD is still squished. They added UV coating to the external model only, BOL still broken. SAL Brimstone 1s still, Training ammo still in the gun (was fixed on the Gripen like 18 months ago), and the CAPTOR-M is still notoriously buggy.

If CAPTOR-M was up to specs and worked consistantly. It would be fine to wait a little while (though they cannot deny AESA for long given the CM comment about EVERYONE getting AESA and it being the only option for Italy and Germany) but given they wont fix CAPTOR-M properly… We’ve fought for an entire year to get it fixed…

I think its time for them to just admit they cant model it properly and just give us AESA like they are doing for everyone else.

Part of me wants them to get an Su-30 while Italy and Germany get an AESA Typhoon now, just because the salt would be hilarious.

I do believe the GE will receive the 12 120 fit (AMBER racks) and the FM buff report that has been accepted.
Yes Typhoon with AESA will be nice but and it’s a huge but it will still only have 6 of the worst ARHM at top tier. Having so few missiles really means you need to play as support. You cannot pressure or you end up dealing with Su-30s with 14 missiles and if you get within 15km of a Rafale…well it’s GG.

F-15 GE and EX will fit that niche for the US of being fast, dangerous missile platforms with excellent Radars and large payloads.

Typhoon will only become META when it has ASRAAM and Meteor having a missile that can do more than just BVR and doesn’t become useless at short ranges will transform the Typhoon.

Su-30MKII/Rafale would be dope, finally FnF ground attack missiles ;)

British tree has own FnF potential

There is exactly one forwarded report remaining open specifically on CAPTOR-M. Regarding its missing Missing Data Adaptive Scanning (Priority Track, which we don’t have as a mode at all in game currently). So this would not be a correct claim.

Spear-Glides would be good stopgap until MMW

To be fair we can have and educated guess on how AESA EFT would perform.
The rafale exists. Has marginally worse overall FM and both better and more ARH to spam. I am putting special emphasis that it has both more AND better, not just one of those. And the radar, of course.
It currently rapes everything.

So AESA EFT, given just the upgraded radar would be still worse than THAT thing (esp. given the part about missiles), but better than it is today. So kind of in between.

Is it currently needed? I would say more no than yes.
Can it be added right now? Well the rafale exists, so by gaijins standards yeah 100%.

Except on the AESAs. Which have the exact code needed to model P-Track

I am working on the next iteration of this report

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/EX1viFZSHukw

as its still an ongoing issue.

Was waiting to see if anything was fixed in the back to back major updates, but alas, Typhoon didnt get a single bug report looked at

AESAs have the features of AESA radars. That’s the point of them. No mechanical scan radar has the mode you are referring too. This is the sole outstanding report spesific to CAPTOR-M.

This is a wider issue of TWS. Its not spesific or limited to CAPTOR.

We do and one day…Adding the Su-30MKII with KH-29 is probably easier
