How many ARM can it carry?
If i remember correctly it only can carry 2, which paired with being subsonic would be a great way to introduce it.
Im hoping we get this on their introduction

or

They can take it on inner pylons too, they generally don’t IRL in favor of jammer pods or drop tanks but it should be able to carry 4
nvm it can carry up to 4
7 ALARM maximum?
- Can be in place on the usual Aim-9/ASRAAM as you can see on the second image. But what I really like is the 2x Dedicated pylons. Meaning no matter what payload you want to run. You can always run 2
That’s pretty nice. I wonder whether HARM or ALARM will be better, since HARM is faster but ALARM has loitering capabilities, however IRL the only reason SAM site operators could evade HARMs is because they called out launches, so they would turn off the radar as soon as they heard Magnum. That won’t happen ingame
I think it will depend entirely on if the loiter is modeled.
if it is, then that should be quite potent and will mitigate the ability to just keep the radar off unless needed.
But if its not. Then ALARM might have the advantage in range (wiki isnt entirely clear what the range of the AGM-88 is) and maybe radar frequencies? (I think I recall something about ALARM being good against a fairly large range, but dont quote me on that) Whilst AGM-88 would have the higher speed. Though I have no idea what speed ALARM is (though based on Wiki, AGM-88 is M2.9 and ALARM is M3.1) So ALARM might have both the better range and speed?
Though I do wonder how much fiction there will be for the sake of balancing them
HARM outranges and out speeds it, where did mach 3.1 come from?
ALARM’s wiki gives a speed of 2,455 kph (I know, Wiki not great) and sticking that into a mach calculator (I know, more complicated than that) gives a figure of Mach 3.1.
So might very much be wrong… but the best Ive got and Cba to look for anything else at the moment
Wiki gives 4 different ranges. So assuming “stand-off” means being quite high… they might be kinda close?
edit, Ive made a mistake. 1 sec
Scartch that. It kept changing to Mph instead of kph even though I kept selecting kph. M2.0
2455kmh at it’s peak altitude of 43000ft (most ideal conditions), is mach 2.29
idk, i mean it seems like the 93km figure for ALARM is the maximum range, i cant find anything higher
Not actually. At least Soviet ships ingame got its keel laid down. Most of Swedish papers are not, discarded in only paper stage.
And yet we have ships that manage to defy everything that was physically possible from Russia at the time. Mind explaining how the Sovetsky Soyuz has some of the best armor and guns despite the well known problems with Russias steel quality and half baked manufacturing skills when it came to trying to speed build?
@Morvran you’re more of a naval guy than I am but isn’t it strange how Russian ships always seem to have just the best aspects and stats for their weapons that weren’t even complete cough cough Kronshtadt
Yeah…
Kronstadt is at least balanced. Soyuz… Could quite happily be 10.0
Like Soyuz’s RoF is what the designers thought it might be able to do and the accuracy is based upon land based firings, not even in the proper turret, just the guns… The Soviets probably couldnt build the armour, etc etc.
There is a pluasible ship that got laid down but canceled. And there are back of napkin ships, that might be fine if balanced, but when they render 7.7+ unplayable… should never have been added
Naval getting proper decomp would fix a lot of problems but having unrealistic values given to paper vehicles will always be a terrible choice imo
The one in the tree concept is the Cruiser Almirante Latorre, an ex Swedish Tre Kronor class light cruiser sold to the Chilean navy in 1971.
