I really hope we get CBUs in 2025. I think they are the perfect next weapon to add. They wont be a top tier super weapon and they would give quite a meaningful buff to lower BR CAS that have been struggling. Also could be tuned to give non-napalm nations/aircraft a similar weapon in ARB/ASB
I’d love to see CBUs as well, but it just seems very unlikely that we will see them in WT. Having seen flechette and canister ammunition and cluster bombs in other games it just feels like too big of an ask for Gaijin to implement those weapons right.
Maybe they can get such weapons to work right without having the servers borking all the time, but personally I’m not convinced that they could do it.
Spoiler
And oh my lord, what a nightmare those things would be in GRB
I think its possible for the servers to handle it, if they modeled them the right way, at least they seem to no longer explode whenever a battleship fires all of its AAA or when an F-111 spams off rockets.
Actually, I doubt it, they usually required fairly specific drop conditions, including minimum deployment alts. That would leave you fairly vulnerable to SPAA. In an era where people are mad about people sitting outside of the range of SPAA and dropping GBUs “from space” I think giving them a half decent weapon to encourage them to do anything other than that would be worthwhile. Id kill for a Tornado in the British TT at 10.0 and I would be in it over the GR1A dropping GBUs every single time.
Does Gaijin realize that not all IR A2G missiles are OP as KH38MT? Now NATO is getting harder to use AGM65s to counterattacks
If they limit the number of bombs it might work out, like 2 per plane or something it would help. A plane dropping 10 of them at once will cause a hell of a lot more stress vs dropping 2 I would wager. Given you can have a bunch of people drop artillery at the same time and its “safe” so to speak, it might work out with a limited scope of how many submunitions are used.
Gaijin could also do it as an AoE field with a visual aspect, but for gameplay wise “if in the field” you die.
As it is gaijins implementation of napalm weapons tends to have this I think? Doesnt really matter what angle you drop a flame bomb, they always seem to have the same “damage/visual fire pathway”.
as for nightmare in GRB, I personally cant wait to start spamming gaijin with pictures of Strikemasters and Jet Provosts with CBUs at air shows and finding documents of the Jet Provosts with BL 755 capability xD
Gotta punish Tiger players harder man.
247 AT bomblets per CBU for the Rockeye
IBL-755 too ofc ;)
TBF, if the server treats as a giant HEAT shell which covers the entire area of the bomblets - then big maybe, and given the concentration, it might as well represent IRL leathality
will there be submarines???
will there be fire and forget missles for the AH64D???
will the HUD be fixed for the Eurofighter for VR??
Works for rockeye, but 105 and Drel have individually guided submunitions
Has been 2x test events and its entirely possible it could come with any major update. God knows when though,
The problem is the MMW seeker. its basically been hard denied now, with absolutely 0 alternative. You can read about their excuse here for another MWW seeker missile and the massive amount of nerfs it has recieved as a result
Spoiler
Gaijin takes an absolute age to fix anything that mostly affects SB players let alone the sub-community of VR users. Dont expect any fixes anytime soon. Especailly if all their VR related attention is directed solely at Aces of Thunder
They could add JAGM-MR (US & possibly UK) and/or SPIKE NLOS (US) to an AH-64E. Also AGM-114R-4 to US AH-64D and E
Both have IR guidance modes
They could, they probably wont. Probably saving the AH-64E for when MMW is possible
That would be nice, but that would also probably delay it a lot
Yeah, but its the only reason I can think that they have delayed. Britain hasnt gotten a new top tier heli in a very long while and the Harrier Gr9A could have been perfect at any point in the past 2 years as a bit of a filler, except for the fact it only used MWW-only Brimstones and not the dual-mode ones that everything else did.

It’s hard. there is one problem that can’t be solved. this:
when using mmv seeker, even without LOAL but just FNF, you can’t “see” what the seeker see, and can only roughly point the target for the seeker. you can’t know what the missile locked but only “it locked something”, and ARH seeker’s big fov means this “something” be anything within two streets.
Except. It isnt.
Brimstone has a mode of operation that only uses the MMW in the terminal phase. And can be guided onto the target.using other modes until then like IOG or laser. This would be perfect for dealing that.
Also, Brimstones LOAL didn’t go for anything and everything. It went for pre-programmed targets. Due to game limitations I would simply give them IFF.
In either case. TKs should be no greater of an issue than any other seekr type we have currently. Probably even safer than GPS guided weapons being fired at the map using CCRP
still a problem, if want to solve the fov problem, the seeker may turn on in maybe 1-2km away?
in this range, I don’t’ think there is any needs of the mmv seeker, just let the laser guided it to the end
