Yup, the Grom E1 apparently has a 250kg warhead, which is smaller than the warheads of most cruise missiles.
Though most cruise missiles have a penetrator warhead, meaning the amount of explosives in the warhead is smaller, but probably still close to the Grom E1. On the other hand the penetrator warheads would be pointless in WT unless we see new kinds of bombing targets (fortifications, ships, bunkers, etc).
Spoiler
Over penetrating tanks with huge missiles would result in some very funny kill cams tho
Grom-1 was not introduced due to it’s range. Not it’s speed. That kind of range is a common factor of almost all modern cruise missiles (most even exceed that).
I mean, why would they add cruise missiles anyways?
There is nothing in the game that would warrant such an addition.
Even if fortifications or destructible airfields were a thing in WT it wouldn’t be a good idea to add cruise missiles, as they would be very one-sided in terms of gameplay. There is no real interaction after launch, as they don’t need to be guided and trying to intercept them would not be very interesting and/or engaging gameplay either.
I stopped watching after the third “look, this guy shoot at someone through a window!” xD
As you said, there’s some actually neat stuff too- it’s only natural that not every clip is outwordly, after all, they gotta share several every Friday.
It is hard for me to believe that they don’t get enough worthy clips.
Like, surely they get plenty of clips that are more interesting and/or impressive than a heli using rocket pods as makeshift countermeasures.
Spoiler
Seriously, using rockets to destroy frontally approaching missiles or as makeshift flares is one of the most mundane things I can think of.
Happens with the bomb bay on the buccaneers too, It’s reaaaaally annoying. Happened cause you pitched down during bomb release, at least that’s when it happens most often on the buccaneers.
Grom E1 (from game stats): 165 kg of TGAF-5M (1.6 TNTe) = 264 kg TNTe, roughtly eq to a 1000lb/500kg GP bomb
JASSM (from real sources): 108.9 kg of tritonal (1.18 TNTe) = 128.5 kg TNTe, roughly equal to a 500lb/250kg GP bomb
So from this you can roughly see it would take twice the amount of JASSMs to get a base compared to the Grom E1, if we don’t account for smaller warhead weight damage bonusses. Anyways, remember warhead weight =! explosive weight.
God that’s so annoying. I keep having bombs collide with the Buccaneers nose, or even worse, with its wings.
Though there is some potential to get some crazy bomb tosses by rolling and deflecting the bomb sidewards.
Or just don’t add them because there is no reason to add them.
What exactly is there in WT that would warrant the addition of cruise missiles and cruise missile/glide bomb hybrids such as the Grom E1?
There are no fortifications, airfields are indestructible (and if they weren’t it should require more skill than just clicking on them on the map and then launching missiles at them), there are no ships to attack in most modes (and even if there were, getting actual AShMs would be more appropriate) and most maps aren’t even as large as the range of cruise missiles.
Ground battles do not need more weapons with even more range than the Kh-38, especially not ones that are programmed to follow the terrain to avoid detection and interception. Cruise missiles aren’t even designed for tank busting in the first place
Air battles (especially sim) do not need weapons to make bombing even more trivial than it already is (which would lead to further reward reductions and at this rate the removal of ticket bleed caused by bombing and ground pounding).
