There are 83 rank 6 aircraft, 81 rank 7, and 72 rank 8, not including premiums, and every rank is smaller than the last, so no more than 8 more rank 8 aircraft can realistically be added, by the time the F/A-18E is added it will be time to move on to rank 9

still, the super hornet itself doesnt really constitute a rank 9 aircraft, F-15SA and QA and EX maybe, but definietly not a super hornet
why not? it’s a 2000s aircraft you know, it’s in the same boat as the Tornado, it will have the capability of a rank 8 but timeline and tech speaking, it’s a rank 9, especially if they give it AESA, which I can’t imagine they won’t
so all the USAF/USN/USMC upgraded 4th gen will go to rank 9 too then?
You mean the ones that are only 2000s because of the JHMCS, probably not, the HMD is anachronistic, but other than that they’re 90s aircraft, they’re all also 4th gen with mechanical radars.
As a bonus, adding a rank above them should lock most of their loadouts in place which would be nice to see
If it’s to compensate for the weakest CAS, shouldn’t it be China? At least Japan has obtained a qualified CAS now, and there will be a qualified CAS option in the future, so there is no need to have an F-15SG.

Depends a lot how we define rank 9… to me, it seems fair to put late gen 4.5 in rank 9, else many nstions won’t have a rank 9 at all

i wouldnt call a super hornet late gen 4.5 until the block 3 though, block 2 is firmly in early/mid 4.5

True… then draw the line at mid 4.5 instead of late 4.5 idk, I just feel like the hornet-superhornet separation acts as a good line. Idk if that’s correct though

From what I understand Gaijin ignored a lot of domestic CAS weapons for their aircraft.
Not quite sure why, but they seem to be stuck in a “China is worse Russia” mindset, which os obviously just stupid
