No, but I am eagerly awaiting the blog that will surely come for our beloved Battlecruiser Strasbourg

Yeah, by putting AIM-9X in there they might as well have written “this is a fake, you absolute troglodyte” in big red letters xD

More like C-6, but yeah to a lesser extent 9X. Like the R-73, there’s multiple upgrades to both missiles. We’ll have R-73M’s or R-74’s around the time we get 9X it seems. That or they will finally fix the seeker issues with the R-73.

You can’t deny it is a scary ahh missile (AIM-9X keeps me up at night)

The R-73 is OK, there is no issue.

Eh small turn radius, could perform better (looks at iris-t)

Wait until you hear about IRIS-T or ASRAAM

Without the TVC , the ASRAAM probably has a bigger turn radius overall (espacially because it goes so fast off the rail).
The IRIS-T has different stages of thrust to help it to turn directly toward the ennemy before the main acceleration.
The IRIS-T is a very scary missile when you’re very close with an oponnent.

Yeah, IRIS-T Is king within about 5km. ASRAAM and IRIS-T are about equal around 5-10km. Then ASRAAM is king past 10-15km.

Though if the target is in front you and not off-boresight , then ASRAAM getting off the rails as quick as it does, means you have a lot less time to react than the IRIS-T. So if you are on someone’s six. Then maybe id give that point to the ASRAAM

10-15km is a bit of a fantasy kill though…

His vid today about how the announcement a few months back there was no summer event means there MUST be a Atomic Heart type summer event coming right after the next naval event instead was… Hopeful?

There’s plenty of wishful thinking to go around it seems.

In what way?

Most of these engagement distances are at theoretical optimums, real conditions are not so ideal, i.e. elevation, speed, lock angle/signature.

I know there’s good sustainer tech now on these missiles, but I think you’d be better served launching a radar missile beyond 15km, imho.

MBDA advertises a range of 25km for the ASRAAM, though it is speculated that is highly conservative and under the right conditions, 50kms might be possible. With its Data-link. It practically is a BVR.

IRIS-T is very much a shorter range weapon though, and 10-15km I beleive is considered about its max range under the right conditions

At what point does short range maneuvering even matter anymore tho?

Like, as far as I know, ASRAAM, IRIS-T, Python 5, and AIM-9X all have full 360 degree engagement capabilities. They all have basically the same undecoyable IR sensor. Really, the only differentiating factor in performance is range, no?
