In aviation terms, Italy’s greatest contribution could come from Spain. The F-18, F-4C, F-5, Mirage III, Mirage F.1, Matador (Harrier) were all options, but they chose Hungary, which has little to offer in terms of native aircraft, mostly relying on Cold War-era Russian equipment, with some German and Italian equipment from WWII. The only significant addition to date remains the Gripen. At least with Spain, we would have avoided having Russian equipment, which has no relevance to Italy’s history, and we would have remained much more aligned with NATO.

Also regarding the F-16s, I have sneaking suspicion that Belgian one will be equivalent of US F-16A Block 10 and Dutch one will be Block 15 MLU

yeah fair, just again sad to see the uk being the only nation with TWO sub trees it would seem and neither of them have a tank above 10.3 its so depressing
