What I understand is that BMP-3 and BMD-4 both use same weapon system (100+30) but BMP-3 is better armored, thus the analogy with ZBD04 and ZBD04A.
The BMD-4 has a faster reload with missiles, and is more mobile.
Then you understand wrong. The BMD-4 uses a new Autoloader, that stores ammo vertically, and can also autoload ATGM’s while the BMP-3 has to manually load them. The ZBD-04 uses the vertical Autoloader similar to the BMD-04, and the ZBD-04A simply improved optics, Armor, and the engine

The ZBD04A is an uparmored version of ZBD04, and both uses a domestic version of the bakhcha-U turret which is similar to the BMD-4s. The ZBD04A does have to sacrifice a bit of amphibious capaiblities but brings the defense up to resistant against 3UBR8 frontally and 23mm AP-T sideways, ie, STANAG 6 level. There is also the VN12 IFV for exports with ERA blocks.

What I am worrying about are those improvements over the Russian counterparts. It may require another campaign of bug reporting just like JH-7A and VT-4A1.
On ZBD04A protection level I heard multiple claims even on Chinese forums. One claim is just like what you said, some others claim it only protects against 23mm AP-T frontally and 12.7mm sideways.
The ZBD-04 is pretty simple TBB. My only concern is that if we get the A version, that they make sure to give it it’s 670hp engine.
Speaking of, does anyone have evidence for the 670hp engine? Like an actual primary or official source stating the HP of the engine?
Honestly with the newer list that was shown today i dont really expect anything for Japan air wise
We’re used to it as Japan but always worth a shot.
I’m assuming we might get updates to existing stuff like F-15J and Type 10 at the very least.

Im confident this update will not be the FOX-3 update otherwise imo they wouldve started the blogs off with them and it would tie in much better with the seperation of CMs next major.

I agree with it coming with the split CMs, but its not always the first dev-blog. Pre-order packs are usually always first anyway and main features come 1 or 2 dev-posts in or announced via the teaser. So still a chance
It’d be very poor balance wise to introduce the better FOX-3s without seperation of CMs imo
