The HOBS capability got modeled in with removed seeker gimbal limits, so it’s “there”. But yeah I can’t see Gaijin not going to D3.
Imagine waking up and seeing Centauro 2 and WM-23 in WT teaser)
They’ve repeteadly admitted over time that several stats and performance of basically everything are mostly game conventions, so be ready to potentially witness the same exact fins pulling 40Gs depending on their mood.
So just gimbal for HOBS? In a missile which can’t even do a 180° turn before its booster burns out? It’s like “This guy has everything for HOBS, except the necessary flight performance”.
Honestly, as far as new missiles go, I’m way more interested in seeing the PL-12A than the AIM-120D.
the pl12a will be a better c5, probably around the same range and it pulls
https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Estimated-detection-ranges-vs-scan-angle-th-against-a-target-of-1-m-RCS-for-the-radars_fig1_337985199 bruh AN/APG - 83 only slightly better than the 68 and worse at HOBS angles
I suppose it has some HOBS capability if you launch with enough speed and altitude, even if it ends up taking a turn radius the size of Japan, just will still have some speed when launched from aircraft like Eurofighter.
I’m curious if PL-12A will have Gaijin move the J-10C to 14.7
more than likely will, its also receiving its better engine soon
If its maneuverabilty doesn’t get gimped at those speeds and altitudes because “muh small control surfaces with weak motors”.
That is indeed their implementation of “improved HOBS” yes. The AIM-120D was accidentally added to the files during the last dev server (I assume accidentally). These were the changes over the AIM-120C5:
Battery life: 120 → 150 seconds
INS drift: 2 → 0 (GNSS/GPS)
Launch angle: 55 → 180 degrees
Reworked guidance/PID at high altitudes
That’s… it
The language of the community update made it seem like the engine change was a future thing while the PL-12A was a more immediate next patch thing. But will PL-12A addition without the engine change justify a BR bump?
See where i know gaijin has either gotten something wrong or there is a severe disconnect between the game and reality. Supposedly irl u.s. pilots would rather go for an aim120 within 6km because they pull hard enough to hit reliable. Those are referencing the c-5 or c-7 too, not even the 120d.
kinda depends how good it is i guess, i think itll fix the range issues the pl12 had while retaining its good turn performance, so a nice upgrade
Go for an AIM-120 over AIM-9X? Why would they?
Aim 120 over aim9m. Thats how i know its referring to a c series 120.
I’ll have to wait to see how PL-12A is modeled, but allegedly it will have heavier weight than PL-12, while also having stronger thrust, this would indicate to me that it would have worse turn than PL-12, so an AIM-120C type of thing where J-10C players would be encouraged to bring both the PL-12A and PL-12 similar to how players currently bring AIM-120C and AIM-120A.
theyre both pretty horrendous in game to be fair, shoot either within those ranges and youre not hitting anything
You can get 6km hits with the aim120a/b pretty easily, you just have to drag your nose around hella far. c-5 will just fly off into narnia.
