Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 2)

I think the stationary launch was ~12km range on the FAHW? don’t recall the source tho

The JAGM-MR, AGM-179B.

Yea, but that said just 179, that is why i asked.

From what I understand this is because of their idea to give both the USA and Thailand a “production Stingray”, then assuming the Thai tanks as this base production model.

The only problem with that is that the basic “production Stingray” is not actually the Thai model, it’s the second prototype. It was completed in 1986, a year before the Thai order was placed, according to intended production specification of the tank.

The Thai tank was only one of many theoretical configurations Sitngray customers could buy

Note the optional smoke grenades, thermal sight, commanders sight, digital FCS, stabilizer, chemical resistance paint and engine fire suppression systems. I believe there was also an engine smoke system option not listed here.

So to make the US tank somewhat different from the Thai tank, it simply needs to be based on the actual standard production Stingray, the second prototype.

The only issue with this is that I currently don’t have any confirmed images of this prototype, as all images of the Stingray tanks I could find are either of the first prototype, unspecified but possibly the still the first at a later point in time, or Thai.

Example

image
The tank seen in this mobility test appears to have the later style of cooling system similar to the Thai production model. While this would suggest that it might be the second prototype, it is also known the first prototype later had its engine cooling system revised, so I can’t clearly tell which this tank is. It’s similar to the production model because it is. It’s a Thai tank.

image
This image also shows the first prototype for testing in Ecuador. Here it seems to show the changes done to the cooling system, with the vents being larger and angled out. This is still at least visually distinct from the Thai model which has far less angle in the vents and mesh around the exhaust instead of the solid plates of the prototype.

This prototype tank is seen mounting square mirrors, as well as having the machine gun mount placed to the front right of the commanders hatch, same as the production model. However both of these are such small changes that it may as well have been done to the first prototype.

I also don’t have enough specific information yet to know how this second prototype was equipped with. Potential ESS, thermal sight or a missing stabilizer would make for rather significant changes in game, rather than just minor visual changes.

So all of this means that the second protototype could have varying levels of visual and functional changes, compared to the Thai variant, or even be entirely identical. Right now neither can be properly confirmed.
As it stands now, as much as I don’t like their decision to ignore the definitively known first prototype, the Thai variant is the cosest we have to a confirmed production configuration of the Stingray tank.

I did try to contact Textron about this, but I doubt that giving out information for a 40 year old prototype to some random guy for the sake of a video game is a high priority for them.

Bonus: If you still want something to complain about something

T58 weaponry

Document I have access to on the T58 mentions HE, HEP (American term for HESH), AP, Smoke and HEAT

This. They will take creative liberties to give the M55 a long but playable reload time. M44 is fun, as will M55. It won’t be for everyone. If you’re a vanilla - I only play meta vehicles - player, stick with your vanilla vehicle. The M55 will be for those of us who like some quirk on our fork.

I think around 40 seconds is a reasonable estimate for what reload it will get.

Or if you like playing vehicle types that actually take somewhat of a challenge to do well in, unlike these arty pieces.

That’ll be fine. Longer than FV4005’s reload, but the HE will be more reliable than the HESH is.

Some argue that devblogs never existed around here. Might be true

I’m curious what BR the M55s will be, can’t be 6.0 as the M109s are mostly better but also can’t really be below 5.3 because they would be stupidly strong there.

I thought the T58 held like 30 rounds, that only says 21?

theres nothing noteworthy to show, thats been my guess since last week already

Yeah, will be interesting. I doubt they did, but it would be awesome if the yanks developed HE-VT for the 203mm. Using these SPG as makeshift SPAA is one of the things i enjoy most about them.

I hate meta vehicles…It’s so much more fun when you kill someone with something you barely see and you see them come back dripping with seethe and then you kill them again…probably won’t play another copy and paste spg patch though. I’ll just anxiously await the other parts of the patch.

12km from Helicopters was Brimstone 1 iirc
Brimstone 2 supposedly has an over 200% range increase over Brimstone D-M/1, which would put it at least 36km, and I’ve seen 40km floated around alot.
Annoyingly MBDA doesn’t like giving any hard numbers for Brimstone :/

wouldnt it also just take 5 years to get to its target that way? pretty sure when launched at max range you just get 2 kills and then the match ends and that is if you get an early heli spawn

I don’t mind some copy-paste if it makes an interesting lineup (for a minor nation, typically). I can see why people have an issue with it, though. You don’t want to dilute each nations tree too much to be same-same.

Just because a vehicle is not meta doesn’t mean it takes skill to play though, The M109 is an example and the M55 will likely be another example of this.

That’s just the mechanized ammo racks, the magazine drum holds 6 rounds and the carousel holds 15 rounds.

For total ammunition stowage, there’s a small rack that holds 5 cartridge cases near the magazine and 10 rounds “or more” can be fitted by either side of the driver.

I’m just waiting for another leopard 2 at this point
