For some context, this was just after the whole BAE bribery scandal,
also BAE’s initial bid didn’t include UK manufacturing, a major part of any British long term procurement lmao

Yep BAE don’t help themselves, and I could bet you they’ve bribed again.

But towards the end they secured 100% UK manufacturing with their sub-division in Hagglunds.

Perhaps the benefit of hindsight but I think when they got the first batch of vehicles which literally did not work, they should have voided the contract.

Just like that one guy, you know, one of the guys that were responsible for choosing the vehicle. You know, the one that by a stroke of luck got a non executive executive position at GD just after the choise has been made.

Cant javelins be manually guided?

Yeahh… That should have been the sign. If they’d have voided it then, just after the hulls had been received, we could’ve had my beloved CV-90 family.

iirc that was only on appeal.

They kinda did, Payments ceased very quickly after problems came up, but I get your point.

I honestly get the feeling Ajax would have be better if they just had literally anyone else build them lmao. GD SBS did not have a good record to begin with iirc. On paper the sensor suite blows BAE’s offering out of the water.

Doesn’t matter to the tabloids and the court of popular opinion lmao.

Thales has a contract to magic something up by 2027 iirc. So we’ll see.
Probably have a trial between that, Skyranger, and whatever other wild cards the MOD come up with

We haven’t started yet publically but I am expecting a development of the Thales RAPIDEFIRE made by Thales France but instead made in Thales UK and on a Boxer module perhaps. France have taken a much larger initiative in fitting the CTA-40 across their fleet which is commendable.

There is also another development of the British Mastiff APC with a High Energy Laser Weapons System (HELWS) that recently was developed and the UK is planning to fit the Dragonfire laser system to its warships in the close future.

Mastiff which was successfully tested with HELWS

Ideally (in my opinion) they go for both HELWS and RAPIDFIRE and this also becomes the new medium-calibre autocannon of British warships, which currently use a 30mm with optional LMM missiles in pods, which is what Rapidfire uses but with a CTA-40mm which is far more potent and has airburst fragmentation munitions.

as an inter-rim there’s more starstreak/LMM platforms on order with delivery soon iirc.
And Thales already has a CTA40 based system with similar capabilities to skyranger, for naval use, just needing a better integration onto land based platforms, so who knows. It’s also Thales, who tends to be pretty good with meeting contracts.

Thales has fitted a land based plarform but i think its more of a proposed test tbh
