The R-27 is the best SARH missile, yes. But it’s the best of the worst. As I said the Su-27 gets six R-27s, so by your logic it should be the best top tier jet, but it isn’t. Speak to any competent top-tier pilot and they will tell you that the Su-27 is among the worst top-tier. The performance of the R-27 is nowhere near enough to carry it or the MiG-29.

flight performance wise for sure but the r27er was added far earlier than it was needed came like a bandage for the Mig 29 not getting r73s which is a completely different situation to the mica as there is no alternative and it is only outclassing these other missiles at ultra close ranges.

Maybe, but the MiG-29 was nerfed into the ground and the F-16 got its G-limiter removed. And as people learned to play around it stopped being such an advantage.
It’s pretty much the same situation, the R-73 didn’t get added because it had superb close-range performance with thrust vectoring and HMD and outclassed every other missile. Close range performance is what matters most at top-tier.
The alternative is France gets a Benelux F-16, which is probably why Benelux is coming to France.
