Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 2)

I mean a paper came out relatively recently that basically went “regardless of election, we need increased Def Spending, Royal Navy procurement needs accelerating, and fast, to meet expected/projected threats, and to replace existing assets.”

Not to mention how Parliament has repeatedly kicked the MoD’s backside for the handling, or lack thereof, over Ajax, and how it’s taken far too long to replace Warrior and Chally 2.

Spending needs to go up on everything all the time. Hence my comments about austerity, probably the reason we can’t have nice things like Lion class.

Problem is. The Tories have a 10 year memory and its been 40 years since the troubles in the south atlantic, so they dont remember what happened last itme they started cutting back on military spending

Yesn’t. There’s a limit to how much you can feasibly spend while not neglecting the rest of your country (arguably Dreadnoughts Arms Race and definitely USSR 1980 something)

Although to be entirely fair with the Lion they just did not know whether they needed the battleships and treaty obligations had screwed them up until 1936. I would guess that thanks to having little to no battleship building between 1922 and 1934 that a lot of skills and experience in building them was lost, and that probably contributed somewhat to them taking so long to lay down the Lions? I’m not sure. That and policy regarding the Naval Treaties are probably to blame?

I like this topic.

I don’t like that its the truth, but I like the topic.

technically we lack any top tier battleship

More importantly, they just don’t care. Most of the ringleaders these days have disdain for government of any sort and seek to destroy it at the earliest convenience.

Anyway, let’s not talk about that here.

Or, more accurately, when they started to hyper focus on one particular role at the cost of all else.

But yes, what you say is true. Fortunately (for now) with MRSS concepts and Royal Marines future secured for now, perhaps they haven’t forgotten. Now, lay the MRSS fleet down before anyone can cancel it and get away with it, and sign a contract with BAE that gives financial incentives not to cancel

Hood is just so supremely good, as a Battlecruiser, we just don’t need Battleships.

Look at everyone else, running and begging for 16 inch Battleships, while we’re sat there with KGV and 14 inch going “meh, you keep doing that then”

Well… did do a game eaerlier where I went on a one shot killing spree in the hood

HMS Furious has me acting feral.

We clearly are just built differently. Other nations need Battleships and unpennable ships like Scharnhorst to win games. We just need 1 Battlecruiser.

The singular PP mount goes hard.

why not 20"?

Nah I don’t think so because they finished 5 KGV’s in what? 3-4 years?

The issue was probably the guns not being ready as they take months-years and we were going for a 14" limit.

It’s not a want, but a need.
