I’m actually curious what it could be since if the EFT was denied as being a 4.5 gen jet, which would mean the F-2 as well since that’s according to Gaijin also a “Gen 4++” jet.
Possibly but maybe an XF-2A with APG-68 or prototype J/APG-1 (which lets them play around with AESA)?
Then again if what they say isn’t for the next update, but in the future, then it could be either the F-2 or F-15J MSIP which isn’t a surprise since we know it’ll be in the works.

If they do add ARH to all nations at the same time, then I guess it will be on an F-15 for Japan. Unless they go with something like the XF-2

didn’t use Brimstones, didn’t add 2 more sidewinders
HARM and Taurus aren’t useful for CAS either
only really leaves MW1 but that can be carried by ASSTA1 too
or they add AESA without the advantages of AESA
I dont know a lot about the ASSTA3.1. But Im fairly certain it oculd carry MAWS pod and Id assume it got some other upgrades as well in general. Might not be a dramatic enhancement, but would keep them going.
I am of a somewhat opinion that HARM and Taursu would be useful.
Lets face it, even if they intended to have full AESA. Something like the F-2 would have a C&P F-16C radar for 3-6 months

Generations mean nothing and Gaijin knows this. Gaijin said this about the F-2 when we just got our first wave of F-16s to explain why it wasn’t coming then.
In therms of flight performance it’s basically just somewhere between F-16A and Gripen in agility, while also being slower, so pretty much doable now. The weapons are limited to IR and SARH if we get an early one so this is just about the last chance for it to perform.
As for AESA, it’ll be much toned down with only SARH missiles without datalink that can be fooled anyways. So this could be a chance for them to work out their AESA mechanics a bit before it becomes more widespread in game.

I kinda wish they added more A2G options in general, even if they are less useful for GRB. Its a shame so much is missing from the current Tornados because of GRB.
But we’ll see. Either way, it looks like the Tornados might finally be getting some work over the course of the next 2 major updates. BOL and Mk82 Snakeeyes have been rumoured to be coming to the Gr1 for a while now.
So they made coincide some Tornado TLC with new Tornados.
