I have to disagree with the whole “naval is dead” notion. It has been steadily growing just like the other modes. Naval is just even more of a niche than ground or air.
It has a dedicated playerbase, sure. But that playerbase is marginal compared to Ground and Air. And that will be taken into account by Gaijin when they make decisions on new content.
It was an established game within the genre for years before Gaijin added naval, and even longer before Gaijin added more then destroyers (Let’s not forget the Snail at one point promised that DD would be the biggest playable boats in the game). So Gaijin was already 0-1 behind in attracting players to their naval mode. Something that is still the case, even with Wargamings horrendous game choices the last few years.
Oh, at first, it did. Many full matches of people illusioned with Iowa, Bismarck and Yamato…
Then the Soyuz’s started appearing, one-hit killing everyone and withstanding hundreds of shells with little to no damage, and most of us just weren’t willing to bother with such BS xD.
Also because many issues remain; like Battleships being thrown into 3-cap maps where a single Torpedo Boat ends the match within 4 minutes by capping before the BBs can even engage, etc.
Besides, the grind is particularly long and tediously slow, given the very slow RP incomes and as you generally need to research each and every single ship of each and every single Rank to be able to progress to the next Rank and unlock Top Tier, unlike the original premise and unlike other mode’s trees.
Then there’s the whole broken kill and assist credit system, where you may not get a kill nor even an assist after dealing 95% of the damage if some AI fleet Emden lands a HE on the enemy’s deck. Far from fixing or addressing it, all Gaijin does is claim that “it’s working perfectly and as intended”… etc.
To top it off, new bugs and issues are added every time: after this update, breach damage repairs trigger automatically after every single hit and it’s impossible to cancel them, so you get HUGE repair penalties because it keeps getting in the way of other the repair functions.
New shiny toys will never be enough of a solution when core flaws and issues remain unaddressed.
That’s Naval’s true undoing; Gaijin’s active refusal to fix it.
Five out of the six missile ships have anti surface capability. Sure while we’re not at self guided AShM’s yet. I just used it to express that there are post war ships in game already
I’m not saying that will change, no. What I’m saying is that Gaijin isn’t likely to give priority to naval content on a per update basis. The exception being May-June, of course.
they are all pure HE warheads and are only effective vs destroyers, which considering they normally take the place of other weapon systems explain why they are so low
But those ships were the priority in Leviathans. The name, trailer, and general balance between new Naval/Ground/Air vehicles that update all show that was the case.
not entirely true the Harpoon is SAP warhead with almost 100kg of Destex that would most likely allow it to one shot up to heavy cruisers if the warhead has enough pen
Naval will remain dead until they fix the maps, or make Naval EC the permanent mode. The maps work with costal vessles and destroyers but for cruisers and battleships it’s like having a gun fight in a phone booth.
If we are talking about modern additions yes eventually we will run out of them but there are still plenty of things that could be added. Hell even right at the bottom tiers there’s loads, including a whole war that could be added.
except Gaijin has continuously proven that they aren’t interested in adding too many Low/Mid Rank Vehicles and that instead they focus heavily on top tier
It is 105mm, but given the round should be much longer than that of Chinese 125mm, which are significantly capped by the autoloader, it should have 500mm + pen, which will do just fine, and if the reload rate is consistent with VT-5, this could be a pretty good tank. Although the complexities may be the armour config, since if the armour around crew compartment is as heavy as it seemed, it may be next to ‘unkillable’ upfront.
