Does it have its own unique issues with the radar, or is it just the same issues all other mechanical radars have? (regarding the bugs, not missing features)
Other mechanical radars seem pretty fine to me, but generally radar bugs are indeed some of the most annoying things you can encounter in top-tier. I recall they fixed most of the radar bug issues like 1-2 years ago and the sim community was overjoyed
It doesn’t find things quick enough, it doesn’t track positions very well often 120 shots are from outdated data.
Best option is HMD or PIRATE but they removed PIRATE 120 functionality and the HMD only has 20km range.
Biggest problem with Typhoon is it destroys the games “balance” correct performance and payload it invalidates an F-15/Su-30 and with HOBs it can then challenge the MICA spewing Rafale.
Ive been playing a moderate amount of the Tornado F3 lately and I have yet to have it’s radar do what the CAPTOR-M does constantly. Might be the slower pace of things makes it feel better, but… I think the CAPTOR-M just has issues ontop of the M-Scan issues.
was a few months ago (but after the “overhaul”), I was up high, the last guy ,near their AF, was down low, the radar was telling me he was too my 1 oclock head left to right, I set up the shot and fire my last Aim-120C5. 2 seconds later, the radar contact updates, hes now at my 10 oclock head right to left and my missile suddenly does a 90 degree turn to try and get onto the target and obviously misses. Thankfully I had a pair of 9Ms left htat I could use to the end the match, but that sums up the CAPTOR -M experience quite nicely I think
Doesnt seem to be quite as terrible at locating targets that its pointing straight at these days, but it does have some of the worst scan volume of any M-Scan at top tier
Just tested it ingame, the Kh-59ME literally behaves like a Storm Shadow would when launched properly
Both of these missiles are sub-sonic, they have comparable warheads, they both are cruise missiles and since the Kh-59ME already has enough range to go from one sides airfield to the other sides airfield in SIM the fact that the Storm Shadow has more range is a moot point as well.
I tried looking at some videos, it seems to have some nice and convenient scan areas, a bit slow but that’s how mechanical are. Sometimes you just gotta play to your planes strengths. Generally for top-tier I’d keep radar off at all times, even when I’m flying Rafale or SU30, only turn it on when necessary and utilise the HMD, ACM or a narrow TWS to lock on to people quickly. If you fight good players having radar on basically turns on your “kill me” beacon on everybody’s RWR, which is fine if you’re playing aggressively and can take control of the map, but seeing as you’re unable to do so I’d keep it off. If you’ve ever flown early flankers you’d have mastered the technique.
The only player I know on top of my head of that plays the Eurofighter really well is Feetpics, and he probably has a good YouTube video you can check out
Flying at 50ft, with nothing but IRST and firing aim-9Ms just seems really dull to me though. We finally got something that doesnt need to be flown like that.
I have not seen this video fully but at first glance he seems to fly it in an offensive role using the radar, on Afghanistan. Check it out. I’ve at least been at the receiving end of him flying it offensively, not at 50ft spamming 9M’s, he’s one of the better sim players out there and seems to have a good handle on the Eurofighter
I’ve seen btis of it I think. He uses it as an excuse as to why BOL is fine artifiically nerfed through the floor on everything.
Still doesnt change my opinion on the Typhoon.
CAPTOR-M has its issues, they wont fix them (game wide or specific)
the HUD is a mess at the moment and that is annoying.
Finding targets is a chore, and even if you do, Aim-120B/C5s are just trivial to defeat. Meaning its guns and 9Ms, which is really dull. If I wanted that kind of gameplay, Id play the Gr7.
and thats ontop of the general SB issues that mean I cant be bothered in anything, let alone something with issues like the Typhoon
SB Is stale (No new objectives ,and no new maps) and Rafales defacto always win, so you have to find a game matched with them and hope the match doesnt end too quickly.
It’s nice to have a seperate word for rockets with a guidance system, missile is a lot shorter than guided rocket :)
Actually, thinking about it, I’ve also seen things like dumbfire (unguided) missiles and Lockheeds DAGR (Direct Attack Guided Rocket) and depending on the context a rocket isn’t even a weapon, but rather a vehicle or a propulsion system
