Next Major Update - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 1)

Which already struggles to go supersonic on its own and it will not be helped by the extra drag and weight of the aim174

Pretty much every other jet can launch their BVR missiles at close to if not higher than mach2

While the hornet struggles with speed and gaining altitude

5km alt and mach 1.05 I think AIM-174B would be longest effective range missile in game by far, the altitude and launch speed even if it’s not that fast compared to other aircraft make up for the lack of booster

So how much range would that be?

Because I have seen a r37m being launched at a target 200km away in those conditions

How can you conclude this unless you know the booster mass of SM-6?

It definitely has much longer range than the AIM-120D which from estimates is pretty close to AIM-54 range, which would make it the longest range missile ingame

Ah I thought you were comparing it to other future missiles

No clue on specifics but I really doubt it’s less than the Pheonix

Aim-54 range is nothing

There is the meteor with +250km
There is the Pl-17 with +300km
There is the r-37 with +300km

And those aren’t even the highest range values/ estimates you can find for those missiles

Yeah, and the 174 will have enough raw power behind it to match anything else in the battle despite the Shornets crippling weakness. Whole point of the missile is a stupidly long ranged telephone pole in the first place.
Still won’t make the Shornet good, but it might be enough not keep it from being obvious dead weight to a team.
God, I wish they’d put ANY engine more powerful into that poor plane. What a sad “upgrade.”

Twin navalized F119’s

Where is your source?
For everything else we have values, but for the AIM-174 we might as well have fairy dust

Just like the r37 or pl17 which both are on way better launch platforms.

I dont think that sacrificing most of you amraams for 4 aim174 will help your team that much

If sources can be found on the booster and what speed/alt it detaches at maybe range can be estimated off SM-6 stuff

 The same place you’re sourcing from probably, just people guessing based on how much it weighs and what other missiles can do. https://old.reddit.com/r/CredibleDefense/comments/1dtk3h3/credibledefense_daily_megathread_july_02_2024/lbherao
Unless anyone can prove for a fact how much power the booster gives this whole argument is going to go nowhere. I’m going to keep saying it’ll be fine and you can go on saying it’ll be worse than going in for guns.

Two very different statements.

One statement claims to know that AIM-174B will “outrange all of them handedly” but then another states this argument will go nowhere because there isn’t a lot of information/facts.

Yeah i did mention it here

They just shouldn’t be in the same update

They’re going to be identical for air RB I think.

Also J-10C is larger than JF-17, and JF-17 is larger than J-10A.
You’re welcome.

WTH, why is WTM naval actually interesting compared to the snoozefest we have

Yes, and?
The AIM-174 has the same official range as the RIM-174, which is farther than Meteor and similar missiles.
And we also don’t have any official statements on the missiles performance other than that.
Which makes both statements true.

edit: I thought about it more, and it doesn’t matter at all. Regardless of the AIM-174s ability to go 1 mile or 10,000, there’s no way it’ll be able to pull hard enough to hit anything. Things gonna be more DoA than the Shornet. Its so over for the Navy line.

It kind of has to be pretty manueverable to do it’s job

So the MK72 booster has some ~900kg of HTPB fuel and a burn time of 6.5s im sure someone smarter can figure out the total impulse of the thing but id guess its a pretty significant range drop without it
