How does the seeker look backwards, without looking back at its own fuselage?

Datalink with the aircraft, basically tell the Missile to head towards the HMD sight line and lock on to whatever is there. ASRAAM can do the same thing.

Other radars can paint a target which gets sent to the missile, so it launches and does a 180° and then locks on after launching.
