Out of the Magic II and AAM-3 at their full capabilities and Python 4 and AIM-9X bl 1, the 9X is the best.
I would guess 3+ years.
Still plenty of 4.5 gens to come before then.
And, hopefully, more gen 2s and 3s, even if foldered up. God I want more A-4s, MiG-23s and F-4s
Fair enough, using one of the worst ARH carriers I get why it can seem that way.
But I tell you, using an F-15C or F-16C you will understand that AIM-9M is the strongest overall outside of niche circumstances where you really need the extra pull.
But Soviet planes only need that pull because Gaijin are convinced Su-27 would lose a rate-fight to an F-4C Phantom…
They won’t come as frequently as 4th and 4.5th gens, however.
OK let me rephrase.
How close are we to the F-22 on a scale from Soon™ to Not close at all®?
F-4B with AIM-9B, AiM-4 and AiM-7A
Not close at all™
not close at all

Which is a real bummer IMO. They’re just running a hype train up a cliff and before they know it it’s gonna come crashing down with that kind of an approach
They’ve started to hit a wall with ground, and at this rate, the same will happen for air within three years or so.
they’ve kinda already reached that cliff with ground
air is just gonna have to catch up now
Well I will say I still think ASRAAM IRIS-T and MICA outclass 9X and R73M
Give me my Su-35S (it will be the first Su-27 derivative to outrate a Phantom)
3 years? Hell I’d give it a year at best.
My guy, werent you saying yesterday that the SU-34 is worse than the F-15E
but then lets hope they put lots of effort into naval
they’ve got what 70? 80? years worth of Real life technology to catch up
It’s naval, though.
yes, it can absolutely be fun
