Idk, I feel R73 is definitely superior.
On an eagle, i will never drop an AMRAAM for a 9M, but if i could drop two for a couple R-73’s? I’d 100% do that.
That’s because FOV narrowing IRCCM works amazingly well within 2km, to the point that it’s nigh unflareable, but is barely better than non-IRCCM missiles beyond 2.5 or so.

The earliest 9X I dont think its IRCCM improved that much did it?
The fact that they are effectively death sentences to anyone they’re fired at is indeed frightening.
funny thing that everyone think oh su-33 its gonna be a better su-27 but without fox 3 with only r-27 its gonna be a lot of people that gonna cry

It is slightly better than the Su-27S, however not to the point that it really matters.
And then there are people who want IRIS T in game where you can literally 180 quickscope people from 8km away pulling 60G

And I know that Early 9X capability is limited in comparison to modern 9X idek if it has LOAL and over the shoulder capability its 50g like the R73 I believe but without Bank To Turn itd just be a glorified R73
Can still consider it a straight upgrade over the Yak 141, so I’ll take it
Planes like that, what most call “useless” are still nice to me, more variety and good enough filler IMO.
