Next Major Update - "Eagle's Shadow" Rumour Roundup & Discussion (Part 2)

holy nationalistic cope.

Please don’t. Nobody cares and very helpfully you can in this very game, easily see even in times of paper maps you didn’t need anything like that. Naval planes of WW2 did just fine

No, nautical miles are not convenient and never made sense in aviation. Its a horrible holdover held together purely by american bullying. Remember the ONLY official ICAO measurement system is SI

They did use nautical miles even in old times… The first found mention of nautical miles is by a German sailor several hundred years before the USA even existed. So no, America has nothing to do with the nautical mile. Stop it with the xenophobic/nationalistic comments.

Im not sure what planes have flown in year 1500. But once again, go into a cockpit of italian, german or french even naval planes and they did just fine with normal units. You had Condors flying nonstop from europe to america with cockpit in real units

Not sure where you are getting xenophobia or nationalistic comment from?

I know it’s hard to believe, but insults towards other nations is xenophobia just as much as insults to China (who just love to pull that card).

Boats, ships. USA didn’t adopt the nautical mile until the mid 1950’s.

You’re negatively targeting an entire nation.

Huh? You mean US didn’t standardize their definition until 1950s

They were using those units the whole time in aviation and are the reason why the world regressed in this particular place.

Them, not getting bombed built the new generation of aviation and forced that world on everybody and why eventually rafale cockpit is not metric.

In 1930s the most naval of planes, floatplanes had no issues with this

By saying what that led us to this issue? Surely you jest

Guys please remain on topic also Necronomica is right the US didn’t invent NM, so making silly baseless comments like “Subservient to American overloads” over a measurement they didn’t invent nor official use to later on is just silly.

Read the first sentence in the screenshot.

Why do you think nautical miles is regression?
They are super convenient for air travel as it automatically takes into account how high up you are. If you have traveled 10 nautical miles at sea level and 10 nautical miles at 10km altitude both planes have covered the same ground distance. If you travel 10km at sea level you cover exactly that distance compared to the ground, a plane that travels 10km at 10km altitude will differ in ground covered by about 15m. Which doesn’t sound much but very much adds up when traveling the globe.

Because they didn’t travel at a height that mattered enough in distance traveled compared to ground level, they also didn’t travel far enough for that to matter.

for me the solution should be to able to change them to whatever we want even if its unrealistic. Don’t force people that only know Metric system use Imperial one and vice versa

Dev server down for this time?

or you just learn how to do an aproximation on the fly

1kt ~ 2kph
1NM ~ 2km
100ft ~ 30m

or you just look in the top right of the screen where you already have whatever units you prefer

Yup.

Guy’s stay on topic!

At the end of the day what measurements you or your countries use’s is not relevant to this topic so use whatever you want to use and leave it at that.

Any further comments will be removed.
