Contrary to popular belief, Sweden has enough domestic designs, prototypes, and service vehicles to support an entirely new branch of wheeled tank destroyers in the Swedish ground forces tree. Although Swedish armored vehicle development is often associated with tracked vehicles, the country also experimented extensively with fast reconnaissance cars, anti-tank vehicles, and missile carriers throughout the Second World War and Cold War.
This proposed branch would introduce a completely different playstyle to the Swedish tech tree. Instead of relying on heavy armor, these vehicles would emphasize speed, positioning, and firepower. Players would progress through a line of highly mobile vehicles designed to scout, flank, and destroy enemy armor before relocating, creating gameplay similar to other wheeled tank destroyer branches while still maintaining a distinctly Swedish identity.
The early ranks would feature reconnaissance vehicles armed primarily with 20 mm autocannons and 37 mm anti-tank guns, offering excellent mobility and enough firepower to deal with lightly armored opponents. Among these would be one of the branch’s more unique additions: the Swedish-operated M8 Greyhound used during the Congo Crisis, modified with an unusually large number of machine guns. This vehicle would provide a fun and unconventional playstyle while also representing an interesting piece of Swedish military history.
As the branch progresses into the Cold War, the focus would gradually shift toward dedicated anti-tank platforms equipped with 90 mm recoilless rifles and later anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). These vehicles would trade nearly all armor protection for powerful long-range firepower and exceptional mobility, rewarding careful positioning and tactical gameplay rather than direct engagements.
Finally, the branch would culminate in one of Sweden’s most unique concepts: a wheeled vehicle equipped with a manned, extendable Rb 58 missile launcher. By allowing the launcher to be elevated above cover while the vehicle remained concealed, it would offer one of the most distinctive tank destroyer concepts Sweden ever explored and serve as a fitting higher trie vehicle for the line.
Below is the proposed tech tree, followed by each vehicle and their armaments and linked suggestion
Thank you for reading
The tech tree would look something like this
(IRL they would mix them into the Light TD line but i didnt know how to do that so this will do for now)
