New SPAAs Review

So yesterday, the lads and I (after being excited for this update for the last month) decided to try out these new SPAAs. The planes we used were a variation of Su-34 with Kh-38s, Su-30 with Kh-38s, Tornadoes with various air-to ground ordnance, Grippen C with Air-to-Ground missiles, and even the Stuka because it’s hilarious.

The SPYDER got defeated by a slight turn. We were just doing wide circles and avoided the missile by doing that. The interception of various weaponry was about as effective as the Iron Dome. As in it just made a lot of fireworks but was still overwhelmed by prototype Russian rockets being spammed. Not very easy to hide behind cover either and very visible, even when hiding behind buildings in Sun City, you can still see the radar poking out. Although it did well hiding next to the castle in Fulda, and could still fire.

IRIS-T was being defeated by being slightly lower than Strike Aircraft spawn (and funny enough, slightly higher than Strike Aircraft spawn). I believe most of the testing involved him yelling that he couldn’t see us on radar and we had to tell him multiple times where we were. Although he was able to shoot down our ordnance to some degree of success (if we fired from spawn). Also, extremely fun to use for Prop Hunt, since most of our shots ended up hitting the Go-Go Gadgets and not him.

American Humvee was halfway decent, but again, was defeated by a slight turn (and wasn’t that good at defeating munitions, could just be skill issue though). Only other props I can give it, is that it’s a small boy. Just a wee lad, constantly getting beaten up by the Junker. I guess American trucks will always be blown up by German aviation, no matter it being 1918, 1943, or 2025.

Chinese Pantsir was surprisingly good, just that it’s extremely slow for no good reason (missiles, not the vehicle). Too bad the gun doesn’t get APDS though, I would love to use the spinny thing of doom as a tank destroyer as well. It reminds me of those sentry tanks in old video games.

EldE was as terrible as we all thought: literally just a Swedish Antelope. Literally do NOT get that thing. ItO is far superior. “But but skill issue” nope, the only issue is Gaijin thinking this thing should be in the game, much less at top tier. You are better off using the Bkan as an SPAA than the EldE.

So yeah, Pantsir is still the greatest SPAA, and even better now that you can use the radar to intercept Munitions instead of guiding by hand.

It is really hard to justify there not being some sort of “Russian bias” in the game, especially since this update has done nothing but buffed Russian stuff (funny non-existent boat dominating, unintentional buff for the Pantsir, Kh-38s continuing to get buffed). Before I could literally just say, “okay man, Russian tanks are not that good, stop shooting the hardest part of the tank.” However now Russia got all the buffs, meanwhile every other country barely got an upgrade. The only thing that Russia doesn’t really dominate is ground strictly because their tanks are still hilariously bad, but since Gaijin refuses to give us Tanks Only mode, Russia still technically is great at Ground solely because prototype missiles, nerfing actual missiles into IR/Radar guided APFSDS, and having the best SPAA still in game.

Edit: we used the F-15E and F-15I as well. Still a better CAS than the Su-30 in my opinion, but I digress. Also used the Japanese thing. It’s just another Japanese vehicle. Nothing real spectacular, and I honestly feel even Gaijin forgot this thing existed.

Holy text, but I have no doubt you didn’t left a detail behind. It’s a fact that War Thunder is facing some annoying issues and anti-air missiles performance being one of them, not counting negligence of Gaijin to not implement certain features.

But fact must be said and I’m hoping that this isn’t proposital negligence or ignorance of the reality by Gaijin’s part but technical limitations of this decade old engine Dagor. There are plenty of old game engines but they’re improved, Dagor seems to not have same treatment which may bring serious bugs each update.

I’m using the TanSam Kai, and other than the (very much needed!) radar this thing is straight up worthless. ARH pinging enemies is super annoying, and it’s still the 81c missile so it struggles to hit anything beyond 5km (other than drones flying straight, those are fun to snipe from 10km away)

The radar itself cannot pick up enemies in a consistent manner required to be effective, at closer ranges you cannot lock on any planes as the radar will not pick them up in time before they strafe you.

Why couldn’t we get the Type 11 instead of this junk? Or skip straight to the Type 03 so Japan has something as effective in range as the SLM.

anti-air missiles performance being one of them, not counting negligence of Gaijin to not implement certain features.

That has been fixed in the latest patch

I originally was just going to give everything like a sentence, said it sucked or it was good, maybe a joke, and moved on. Then I figured that I’d have some weird virgin telling me, “erm actually” so I made it as detailed to avoid having to type out the same same thing for twenty different people trying to justify why X is actually OP.

Played a good amount of games with it, the radar doesn’t seem to pick up much. Radar seems confused and doesn’t exactly know where the target it, feels like it needs more tunning to get it to function. And it’s missile, supposed to be superior however, it won’t track or lock how it should.

When it works, it works, but for the most part, it feels really buggy.

Considering the missile bug only got fixed like 6 hours ago it might warrant testing again

That’s basically how the IRIS-T was too. It was confused as hell, but once it could actually pick up something, it was amazing.

It should NOT have happened in the first place. I’ll test it out tonight or tomorrow night, since we decided we are playing Prop Hunt from now on.

One thing i don’t like about the Tan-Sam Kai is the fact that I have to manually control the vehicles to lead their shot and aim more higher with it. If I don’t, the missiles will just hit the building or the ground.

The Iris-T has the advantage of almost triple the range, and not triggering RWR. Also the launchers are aimed vertically which is really good as you can hide them behind buildings. The tansam? Not so much, you have to play with the launchers and loft the missile yourself because otherwise the AI will slam them into the ground. So you cant even have fun roleplaying as a command unit.

A simple fixed 45 degree elevation for the AI launch vehicles would have fixed this issue.

It’s such an easy fix too, just make the launchers have a fixed upward position so even if the target is straight on, the missile wont hit the ground in front of it.

Not like Gaijin cares tho, and the rest of the playerbase dont even acknowledge the tansam existing (still havent seen a single video about it post patch)

I was saying his comment was how I viewed the IRIS-T. Damn thing couldn’t lock onto anything, but when it did, it could actually do things. However considering the fact I spent five minutes in that funny WW1 bomber and managed to bomb the IRIS-T with it should show that these new SPAAs need a massive buff.

Also, I completely forgot it existed, and I have it.

Ive been waiting for videos about it lmao but yea, there are more F-2 videos than the TanSam. 😭

If I go high (7-9km) in the F-111F/F18C early with Mavs what would I have to do to evade all of them?

Apparently just go lower. That’s all I learned from screwing around. As I mentioned in another comment, I took out the IRIS-T with the event bomber.

What would be a good altitude?

Honestly depends on the map. If you’re on the likes of Sinai, maybe be 2km or below so you can use the dunes as cover. Vietnam and other Asian maps you can still be higher up and go back down behind mountains and hills. City maps are fair game. You shoot them, they cannot shoot you.

I hope they make some tweaks and such because I really need the TanSam to function how they do in real life. Struggled to hit low flying helis when the missile also has its own locking system on board. Meaning should be much more accurate.

The cs/sa5 is remarkably good at intercepting munitions if you use the ahead rounds. You can shoot down clouds of glide bombs and intercept mavericks and other such things that are going for people nowhere near you.

I’ve played both the irist and pantsir after the update, the iris is so much better its not even funny I’m not sure how you came to this conclusion. The radar for the pantsir is still absolutely godawful and barely works with the new radar screen (I can’t select and lock targets from there have to do it the old way then go back), still gets pulled off by chaff, missiles etc, and its not fnf like the iris in the sense you lose radar lock its cooked, the missiles don’t have anywhere near the energy at longer ranges etc.

You gotta explain this to me, unless you are only fighting good CAS players that are forcing fights within like 8km, and the person on the pantsir isn’t using the radar screen and is extremely good at manual saclos missile leading and dealing with the pantsir radar.
