New SPAAs feel a bit too strong as first spawn – especially vs drones

Any ideas on what intel should look like for the modern top tier of war thunder other then satellites which would be even stronger.

Light tanks are one of the most annoying vehicles to deal with, since they have next to no armor, hitting them often generate no spall and you either nuke one crew per dart or you round flew past though them without damaging any significant parts so they return fire and kill you right away lol in many scenarios they are more survivable than actual mbts

Don’t agree. I often will play SPAA for an entire match specifically to keep the sky clear.

It’s a team / combined arms game. Keeping the sky clear of enemies is doing your part.

yea there modeling can be funky at times. classic ricochet off a puma

im saying the things you have an advantage against should have a way to counter your advantage or outskill it to a degree. And that drones currently have no way to do anything once that SPAA missle is launched. No one was happy when the su 34 could out reach almost all spaa because there was no way to insert skill into the situation. and now its the same thing which doesnt solver the original problem.

Take that argument one step further. No-one was happy when scout drones with hilariously broken damage models were able to provide wallhack adjacent intel on your entire team with no cost or risk associated with it, and nothing outside of proxy rounds or high performance SAMs could prevent it.

And people were particularly displeased at the various tanks sitting in spawn and exploiting the game to farm scouts and get into CAS with no particular skill or effort on their parts.

It is also absolutely an exploit. Otherwise Gaijin just would have given the scouting ability to the drones themselves, instead of the map ping.

Your drone isn’t your tank. If you fly it where people can see, you will lose it.

Air defense exists to deny or contest the advantage of the air. I don’t find the argument that they’re too good at killing drones quickly to be a very compelling reason why they shouldn’t be allowed to first spawn.

As I said, I play AD / SPAA specifically quite a bit. My job is to keep the sky clear for my team so the enemy and kill their recon.

“It is also absolutely an exploit. Otherwise Gaijin just would have given the scouting ability to the drones themselves, instead of the map ping.” gaijin says otherwise its a tactic in theyre eyes. And like i said before the cost is the fact you will be stuck in a light tank with very little chance of getting a drone back. But i will admit its odd how a drone can survive some rounds at times.

its a drone if people cant see your drone you cant see those people it defeats the purpose also correct me if im wrong even in hover mode the drones tend to have a mind of theyre own and not following a set path or height. Im not hard set on what the solution is im just trying to make sure that it is a problem with no solution at the current moment as what can a drone do once a top tier spaa launches at them?

What can a drone do when any tier AD or SPaA fires at them?

I very much doubt it. Like I said, if it was intentional, they just would have allowed you to scout directly from the drone, rather than add in an entirely new feature (team wide map pings), which you then awkwardly have to scout in the direction of to scout the tank.

No, this is an unintended consequence of their spaghetti coding attempt to fix tank spotting. They changed it so that any tank that’s current visible to anyone on the team (Based on their Keen Vision mechanic) will be spotted consistently. What they didn’t forsee (Or just didn’t care about) was that drones also make tanks visible, and thus by using a drone you can spot people across the map without line of sight.

As for why they haven’t removed it, it’s most likely that they don’t consider it worth the headache. To fix this, they’d have to treat drone LoS differently from every other type of vehicle, which I doubt the game is set up to handle. As this last update has proven, War Thunder’s code is a nightmare of spaghetti to untangle. Odds are, if they tried, we’d end up with a 1 in 5 chance for tanks to spawn upside down or something equally implausible.

Oh no! Not a light tank! However will you survive? What with the complete inability to defend yourself against enemy ground vehicles, massive size, paper thin armour…

Wait. I’m thinking of SPAAs. Not the vehicles with MBT adjacent firepower and mobility, who merely lack armor.

Based on your stats, you’re manufacturing this issue by massively uptiering light tanks like the Vextra and 2S38 to tiers where they are completely incapable of being effective. Play them at their own tier, and all of a sudden it’s no longer a big deal when your drone gets shot down, because you’re still in a solid tank. Or play one of the few actual top tier LT like the CV90120 or HSTVL.

Why would this be nerfed

All SPAAs could already shoot down drones eons ago

I used to do it all the time in my Santal and ITO, especially since i fell victim to the drone exploit a few months ago.

Besides, drones can very much be shot down by SAMs IRL, it’s just cost ineffective (although it depends what you are trying to protect). This is reflected in game by the limited supply of missiles an AA can carry, so it’s fair and square imo

What isn’t fair and square is the drone marker + spotting exploit, quite concerning it hasn’t been fixed still

I wish intel was just done over voice comms, vehicles that actually need scout drones like you said 30mm shitboxes like the puma. We can’t have voice comms here though, which kinda sucks.

In a perfect world we would just have teams with mics playing together and communicating.

Ammo crates.:

You don’t get an unlimited supply of ammo crates…

Ammo crates do indeed extend the amount of missiles carried, but it’s still very much limited, especially in a missile-rich environment

Oh, be glad you don’t have to go anywhere to refill your ammo. Because then you’ll have to use not only the mouse, but WASD as well.

SPAAs don’t go to the frontline to refill ?

A crate is a crate, not entire logistic trucks that fill you indefinitely on the back of the battlefield. See ? it can go both ways

I’m not aware of any light tank carrying drones like what we see in game however, they’re usually separated units. They shouldn’t even exist on cold war vehicles, if you really want to nit pick

What are you telling me, man. Spam missiles ->ammo box → spam → J-out ->backup ->spam ->ammo box → spam ->battle over. So your statement that AA has a limited amount of ammo in the game is not entirely true.

  • Not everyone has a backup
  • Yes it’s still limited, even with a backup. As a matter of fact, it’s still less ammo that what a tank can carry for your average, 8-missile carrying SPAA (32 with backup). I will say that counting backup as additional ammo isn’t really a fair comparison, since you lose a vehicle in the process
