New Run of Nuclear Escalation!

Did you make sure to select it via weapon selector?

yup
kinda killed myself with that error 10min ago

how much are you deviating from the approach line on your target point? I know a lot of people are reporting bomb tossing isn’t working if they’re off by a few degrees.

Nah I’m litteraly all good for a CCRP bomb drop. I have some hours in-game, so I know what I’m talking about.

As someone who has been using the F16C for this run of nuke thunder, you can actually take out 2 S300 batteries in one run with the GBU-39s. All you need to do is hit the 2 radar trucks on each battery, and you can ignore the 2s6 and shilka in each one because they won’t even try to intercept any of the GBU-39s unless you drop some on them. Technically you could take out up to 4 S300 sites in 1 run, but that would take you a while to get all the target points set, and I like to put 2 GBU-39s on each radar truck just to guarantee a kill.

With the change in teams to allow more nations on the soviet side, can we see the soviet carriers be replaced? Naval aircraft like the buccaneer can’t take off from them with a bomb load, for example, even if you pull out minfuel and taxi to the far side of the carrier to maximise your takeoff run.

Yes i know i was talking about wiping out the whole battery 2 radar + 4 TEL

An easier + safer method especially with the F-15E (other GBU-53 carriers can do it as well but F-15E carries the most) is to take GBU-53 + TGP to murder all S-300s from space. Spawn on the furthest runway then climb to 12-13km altitude while pre-marking S-300/Nebo sites with aimpoint to measure distance, then use target point to mark the first site. Go into TGP once within 75 km with thermal mode and start dropping GBU-53s while constantly sliding your mouse upwards to keep target in crosshairs. Once you see the white square lock appear, launch the GBU-53 and target next S-300 vehicle. Each site can be completely destroyed with 8x GBU-53 or 6x if you are greedy to target only the S-300s. Once you have dropped on a site go defensive and rearm or setup again for another S-300 site (descend below contrail height, get back past ~80 km from a site, reclimb to 12km).

The glide to target should take around 5-10 minutes and if you hit 1 or 2 sites + 1 or 2 Nebo per sortie you can severely degrade redfor’s long range SAMs with total destruction being possible in around 30-35 minutes (if you are the only one hitting S-300s).

Thats because they didn’t make it impossible to intercept, just a lot harder. With enough of them (usually 2 or 3 per 2s6) you can reliably get through. That is what a saturation attack is. You are playing Britain, right? Try using the F18A Late with the JSOWs. SPAAs wait even longer to start intercepting them compared to the GBU-39s and Spice-250s, so it’s basically a guaranteed kill on any stationary air defense system using them even with just 1 JSOW. At least that’s what my friends are telling me. I don’t have anything with JSOWs yet.

Because the 2s6 actually only has a range of 10km max, so the brimstone can outrange it, and it got the pseudo RCS mechanic as well, so if you fire a few off at a 2s6, you can get one through. Also, because of a bug with TV and IR guided weapons right now, laser guided weapons are the only ones that can reliably hit moving targets in nuclear thunder.

IR and TV guided munitions are bugged right now and cannot hit moving targets, only stationary ones. And the KH38 did not get the pseudo RCS mechanic, and the ITOs are 10x better at intercepting munitions than the 2s6s are. So if you think the 2s6s are impossible to hit with your HARMs, imagine how hard it is to get through an ITO.

You can’t launch them from forever away, the 2s6 will have absolutely no problem intercepting them both. And don’t try to use HARMs on the depot either, with 3x 2s6s I have only ever managed to get one of them using a full load of 4x HARMs on the F16C. Your best bet is to target the convoy AA. The tactic that I found works best is to fly around a bit until one gets spotted, then climb a bit to around 1-2km of altitude or so, then fly at it head on. It will launch at you at around 6km or so, and you will want to wait until the missile is halfway to you before launching at it, and launch 2. When you launch your HARM, it will immediately stop tracking you and launch another missile at your first HARM. Usually it will intercept the first one (occasionally it gets through) but it does not have enough time to get the 2nd one. And you HAVE to climb before launching because if the HARM does not come from a high enough angle, it usually misses.

None of these got the pseudo RCS mechanic so they get intercepted from miles out, unlike the GBU-39 which the SPAAs won’t even try to start intercepting until the last second. The only reason redfor was able to get their large GPS glide bombs through was because of a bug where the AAs would ignore any guided weapons above a certain mass, and that bug was fixed for this run of nuclear thunder.

It’s really not though. The S300 is semi active radar guided so all you have to do is go behind a hill and it loses track of you. The SAMP/T is active radar guided, so once it launches on you, you either have to drain the missile of its energy, notch it, or stay 30m off the ground so it can’t hit, and if you choose the last option you can’t do any of the objectives. That is why the BUK was so oppressive, the active radar guidance combined with the fact that it had 2x the effective range of the SAMP/T. And also the fact that redfor had the KH31PD which could cross the map in less than a minute wiping out the entirety of NATO air defenses 5 minutes into the match. But now the SAMP/Ts will detect those KH31 launches and switch off their radars, so redfor doesn’t have that advantage anymore either.

They had said that before the BUK M3s were swapped for S300s and before the advantage redfor had with the KH31PD was nullified.

Oh yeah I don’t bother hitting the launchers because once the radars are down the site is dead, and the radars don’t respawn (as far as I am aware at least)

Thanks, but how to know the general location of those S300 sites? They are not visible from that far away on the mini map.

S300 are in the same spot as the BUK are in this map

What about the 3D cockpit HUD?

Thank you so much!!

Almost to a T how I do it lol. I go to the mid point between my teams and the enemy teams depots, then start climbing to bait one to shoot at me, then look for the giant missile trail and then point the TGP at it. Drop to the deck to break LOS and wait for the missile evasion message, and start climbing again in the notch angle so I can put target points on the radars, then dive down again. Repeat the process to get target points on the radars of a 2nd S300 site. Then reset my position back towards my airfield. Fly low and fast towards the enemy lines in between the 2 target areas, then when I’m about 30km away, enter a steep climb, and at about 1km altitude, salvo all the bombs, then dive back down and return to the airfield to rearm and wait a couple minutes for the bombs to hit.

Just use the map i just sended to know sam locations

Works in theory, but between 39s and JSOWs which should go to the target point, they spiral out halfway through as if they somehow lost a GPS coordinate.

Gps weapons cannot be fired by thermal pod if the target is moee than 30km away, you need to place the interest point manually on the map or use the GPS points placed manually or placed beforehand by pod.

Gps weapons are best fired with the pod but under 30km using pop up attacks

It works with TV/IIR seekers as they will acquire the ground cintradt and switch to the veichle lock mode once in range.

and let me guess; targeting pods not being able to sight a weapon beyond 30km is an oversight from when the system was first implemented, yeah?

It used to be lower, actually. They’ve been increasing it as new weapons are added.
