New Mobility and Steering Features - Feedback Discussion

Never gunna happen anyway lol

Also they might not have access to the BVM on the dev so they’re testing what they have access to.

yehh its like a ship with the wind in its sails, just wants to move forward at all times lol

I don’t care if it’s faster or not, this is not F1. It feels nice to drive, it doesn’t lose it’s momentum basically ever (not even in high speed slaloms) and can still make sharp turns and even drift. But it should be also considered that it got the engine buff

All falls apart tho when it wants to turn on the spot or anywhere at low speeds, you picked 2 gear i see … ohh no … ahh 2nd gear again good choice … oh no … ohh 2nd again my friend lol JUST TURN !!!

Yes I said it a hundred times (and even made a bug report) that dual transmission tanks are refusing to use the 1st gear

I know, i was joking

Khalid and IPM1 did not recieve new steering on the dev server

in addition, the M1 series got engine and gearing changes, and thus the comparison with the M1 would not be a fair comparison to begin with

By the way this whole thread is not about adding RS in it’s current form. I don’t even want that. We just have to provide feedback to make it better.

It’s shit currently so just scrap the whole thing is not a good feedback, at least for now. If we are on like the 5th+ test and it’s still shit then maybe. But planetary steering is a must for every tank, I don’t think there are any downsides to that.

when did i say this ???

I didn’t mean you specifically haha

Why is your Abrams sluggish?

I recorded a session on an angle & this was the result:
A snappy, easy to maneuver Abrams.

I played around with it on the hills of the test drive with my non-expert crew.
I can only imagine what it’s like with an expert crew.

Its going in the right direction and it makes the live type 10 steering feel janky and unrealistic in comparison… however its not yet better. i think it’ll get there… eventually

The developers explicitly stated that achieving the same level of steering as the T-80BVM on other tanks is impossible.

And speaking of the T-80BVM, controlling it is just as inconvenient as controlling other tanks. Yes, its turning radius is noticeably smaller than the Abrams’, but just like with the Abrams, you still have to constantly keep an eye on the gears and shift down by repeatedly pressing the S key. This makes controlling the tank more complicated, and that’s a bad thing.

Because in my video, I’m not just driving around an open field like you are. I’m doing the things I would actually do in a real battle.

What? People are doing this?

I just used audio cues & radius cues to determine how fast I wanted to go.
Never thought about looking at the gears since the last time this was tested as I learned the gearing things back then.
Now it’s just training my muscles the new feel, which is fairly quick to be honest.

Yep, which is why I chose that hill & that recording where I’m maneuvering in a tight space.
You should watch videos prior to posting, you would’ve realized I did radius turns within 2 tank lengths of the Abrams, 3 lengths was the reverse agility.

You drove around on a hill, whereas I was trying to recreate real situations you encounter in battle: maneuvering in tight spaces, repositioning, and making turns. Those are two rather different testing conditions, don’t you think?

My bad, I though it was all M1 and all Chieftains.

I tested the Leopard 2A4, M1 and AMX-30. In all of the tests the RS improvements were either minor or even detrimental. In all the tests the regenerative steering felt subjectively worse to use.

Maneuvering in tight situations is the same exact testing condition.
You can maneuver in a tight space that has physical buildings or virtual buildings.
The space I drove inside of was well within the limitations of that niche location on Abandoned Town.
Yes, niche. An uncommon position for anyone to be due to its vulnerabilities.

Despite the unpopularity, I copied the dimensions for my own testing in my head & drove around the virtual position until I got comfy with the Abrams.
I still have more to learn about regen steering tanks, but it was enough to produce those results.

I tested a route with the 2A4 (no other changes except RS, unlike the M1). Although the times were roughly similar, even favorable towards live server (notice me crashing into the trailer on live but not dev), the reaction time and maneuverability of dev server (Regenerative Steering) was considerably worse. Dev server was faster when it came to moving between positions.

You also haven’t practiced enough on regen tanks.
I have a few hours of practice, & am performing maneuvers that provide better results than live now.

When things become reflexive memory, that is when a comparison should be done.
There’s a reason I’m not comparing my own results yet.
I’m not practiced enough, & I’m fairly practiced.

All I know is my results are currently ahead of many videos showcasing the “flaws” of regen steering.
Flaws cannot be shown until other variables have been removed.
