I have been thinking for a while now about different types of events War Thunder could have and I want to know what other players think of these ideas as well as any ideas of their own. Please keep in mind that these are only ideas/suggestions, I do not represent Gaijin or work for them and I am not a mod, this is only things that people want to see as potential future events.
So my first idea was to have an SPAA event that would last about 15-20 minutes. This would be where players use only SPAAs to battle and possibly ground vehicles with only MGs (such as the M2A2), but not those with automatic cannons that are not classified as SPAAs (such as the PZ II C/Fs or the L6/40) and no vehicles equipped with SAMs. Whether it is to battle other players in their own SPAAs, to shoot down NPC aircraft or even both, I think it would be fun.
My second idea is to have a Gunship event that would last about 20-25 minutes. Only aircraft with no offensive weapons (including rockets) and only defensive turrets would be allowed. Think of it as a way to really put your crews (and your own, if you want to control them manually) gunner skills to the test. It would be a sort of secondary slap-fight kind of thing, where players are just flying around letting their turrets do the attacking. I think this would be more about luck and the level of your crews than about skill, so everyone would have a fair shot at winning.
My third idea was to have an Aircraft Carrier based event that would last 30-45 minutes. Both teams would start on 3-5 NPC aircraft carriers, having to take off using naval planes (aircraft carrier based aircraft such as the F2A-1, TBD-1, A6M2 Reisen, D3A1, basically any aircraft with a tailhook to catch the arrestor wires) or to take off from the water using hydroplanes such as those being used in the current Floats event.
According to the US Naval Institute, typical WW2 aircraft carrier fleets were enormous and would consist of around 15 aircraft carriers (CVs and CVLs), 6-8 fast battleships, a mixture of 8-12 cruisers (CLs and CAs) and around 75 destroyers. This, of course would be far too many for the game, and I made an estimate on a more appropriate number of ships.
For this event, a believe the 3-5 aircraft carriers would be surrounded by a fleet of escort ships consisting of NPC ships: 12-15 destroyers, a mixture of 4-6 cruisers of both types (light cruisers and heavy cruisers), 1-2 battlecruisers and 2-3 battleships, all with reduced accuracy AAA. The players would then have to fight to get past the other teams planes and the escort ships in order to take out the opposing aircraft carriers. The first team to have all their aircraft carriers destroyed or to run out of planes would lose (I think players should be able to either use each aircraft in their line-up twice or be allowed to use 2-3 backups).
I know this idea is much more complex than my other 2 ideas, and it may even be more appropriate for this kind of event to allow players to join a match that has already begun (with a cut-off of at about 10-15 minutes into the match)
So what do you guys think about these ideas? And do you have any ideas of your own you could share? I think it would be nice to get a better idea of what players want to see for new events in the game.
