Nerf MiG-23ML/MLD

who was it against

Almost even against a damn fighter bomber…

Me, I was using the MiG-23BN.

okay thats fair, that is literally the worst mig 23 of all time

Yesterday I had a Mig-23 / R60M engaging me frontally in my Torndo, it crippled me despite I pressed the flare button 2 times before he launched. I’m no total idiot, in these situations I always pre-flare. I was kind of stunned as it hit my Nado. He was also top killer by a large margin. So something is odd with Mig-23 or R-60 (what happened to this once underwhelming missile).

R60 is really op at closer ranges. When you’re in an hot jet, you almost can’t flare it. When I switch to an R-60 capable jet, I immeadetly notice that R-60 aren’t the inferior missiles they used to be. As long as you fire them close range, you get your kill. Its kind of a super IRRCM.

(While Aim-9L goes after every flare, it really **** especially if you just got two missiles.)

My R-60Ms love thrust vectoring into friendlies

I try to get within 1km before launching it and that works pretty well.

It can work up 1.25-1.50km in my experience but I try to avoid those launch ranges if possible

MiG-23ML/MLD/MLA are some of the best aircrafts in 11.7: R-24R is the most OP SARH missiles in that BR and the only one that has IOG (that’s an advantage that eclipses the poor loadout of radar-guided missiles of the Flogger), also R-60M are very maneuverable and can get objetives very far away (2km if u’re going mach 1 or more).
also the radar is very good and thx to MTI u can get locks more easily, and being one of the only planes with IRST is literally an ABSOLUTE advantage, thx to u getting a lock on the enemy without it notticing about ur lock.

if u have a skill issue with the Flogger, maybe i can teach u how to play it so u can stop complaining about. i dodged 3 AIM-7Ps in a BVR battle against a F/A-18C Early (i didn’t win, but he didn’t also)

fr, Su-27 at 13.0 is one of the most opressive and abusive Flankers of all the game.
6 R-27ER + 4 R-73 + 96 reinforced CM + 2 absurdly OP engines + insane maneuverability for that FAT plane = more aggresive than F/A-18A at 12.3

the only Flanker i hate is the Su-27SM: its just bad, the R-77s aren’t good at all for BVR due to the extreme drag and are only good for dogfighting or head-ons thx to the insane maneuverability. and no, using R-27ERs aren’t a good idea cuz at that BR (13.7), most planes use full Fox-3 loadout, and needing to keep a lock while everybody just spams AIM-120s isn’t a good idea

The best part of the SM is the blue afterburner.

You cannot change my mind.

Afaik i think it has to do with its very wide seeker fov, it gets fooled by the flare and turns away, but if you are at close range or not turning, you would still be inside the seeker view when the flare cools down so the missile relocks on you, it happens to the aim9l too but due to the narrower seeker view (which is supposed to help with flares, lol) it happens much less often.

Su-33 is an even more aggressive jet you get 4 R73, 6 27ER, and 2 ET but 48 cm so you have to go fast. It does get a better RWR which is nice

The biggest issue with the Mig-23 imo is that they face planes with bad rwr, bad radar and low cm count, so a mig23 player can just fly undetected right up to your face at point blank and shoot an r24 that has insane acceleration and maneuverability off the rail and you wouldn’t be able to do anything about it, unless you are already hugging the deck which most people around that br wouldn’t be doing since most kills are still being made in close range dogfights.

It’s like the 2 r24r missiles are way more of a guaranteed kill if you fly low and shoot them at close range than even irccm missiles, yet we have the Mirage f1 with its terrible flight performance be at a higher br because it has “two guaranteed missile kills”, i just dont get it.

Give me my blue after burner Gaijin. Too good looking. Purple might be even better. Give. Gaijin.

wait until you find out about the viggen at 11.3

or the one at 10.3 with the same radar

aim 9l at a lower br:

The mig 23ml radar is absolutely garbage, but it happens to be a vehicle of “club or be clubbed” thanks to BR compression.

Meh. aim-9l are surely better than R60, but not enough for it to be “big scary”. The only good aim 9 is the aim 9M or the late smokeless L

it is atleast scarier than the r-60

and the Aim-9l on a supersonic platform isnt to bad either at 11.0 and you get an amazing radar that only starts to be outclast at 12.0/12.3

ontop of having a useable RWR for the BR that is able to detect PD radars

I might get this plane to troll some 9.3s.

but still, when uptiered or even at its own tier, it’s not that special.

that is the case for every plane tho

you are able to good in a downtier and you struggle in an uptier besides a few exceptions here and there
but i wouldnt say that the Mig-23 is one of them

in a full uptier you are going to get your arse kicked by F-16’s, F-18’s and F-14’s
