I still dont get what im doing wrong. Im currently on the P-47D-22-RE and im still not getting a single kill. I made a post before asking for help with the P-51 and i watched all the videos people sent, employed all the strategies, and so far i am still having the worst gaming experience ever in my life. I feel like im doing everything right with these “boom and zoom” fighters, but it feels like every aircraft in the game is better at boom and zoom than american fighters. Are all those videos and all that advice just lies? Is america just the worst air tree in the game? I tried to upload a clip of my gameplay, so if it works please tell me if im doing anything wrong.
I think you gone far from your team mates or you alive alone.
dont follow one guy. he would drag you into his team.
Stick to you team see where is furball forming then boom n zoom them. Aslo take out slow targets
Here
Also if you playing on pc, controlling pitch, aileron while dogfighting makes easier to pull for a shot
First question: Why are you at ~350kph ~300m. US tree is THE best tree in game, but definitely not the best for low alt slow fights.
Yes the meta today won’t give a p47 that much time to climb, but it’s necessary for this craft to have speed, and preferably to keep a mid (old school) if not high (2025) altitude.
In that short clip I see 3 issues:
You are on the deck
You are slow
And you have four enemies within 1.5km of you.
All of these are bad. ~350kph is not fast enough to accelerate and climb away from anyone. You need to be doing 600kph+. You need to be going FAST. The only time you want to be slow is if you’re topping out of your climb, above everyone else, and looping over to begin a new dive.
Being on the deck is also not great for a P-47, its supercharger kicks in at high alts. It shines up high where everyone is starting to run out of horsepower but its still got power for days.
And lastly, diving into multiple enemies is always a death sentence. You want to single someone out, someone that doesnt have immediate support avalible. If you want to dive into multiple enemies you need to make sure you are going as fast as you possibly can to climb back away from them before they can bear on you and chase you, Im talking close to wing rip speed here.
I actually went and watched the replay of the game you took that clip from, and I’d say you did pretty good overall with positioning, sideclimbing, and target prioritization in the early game. The big thing that lead to you dying in that clip was that right before that you pulled a big immelmann in the middle of the furball after you missed on another boom, which not only lost all your speed but made every enemy in the area start looking at you.
You gotta stick to the plan even as the game progresses. It can be frustrating having to play so passively, especially as the numbers start to thin out and it begins to look like even if you win, you won’t have gotten a kill, but you gotta be patient.
The other thing is working on your aim. You set up a perfect shot on a mostly stalled out Pyörremyrsky early on, but couldn’t hit him. I’m not sure if it’s just the replay system being inaccurate, but it looked like you weren’t leading enough and you were shooting way too early. You don’t want to start firing when they’re 1.00km away (except in a head on.) At best its just a waste of ammo, at worst it can throw off your aim and alert the enemy that you’re coming up on them. If that’s just the replay being weird, nevermind.
There’s not much good advice I can give on how to aim better, besides like the other guys said using your keyboard to control pitch and at the very least roll. I’m pretty bad at aiming myself. One good thing about boom and zooming is that if it works, your enemies will be easy targets because you’ll be making them slower and slower on each pass.
I watched the whole match (replay link) - and your previous Air RB match on Spain.
It is imho obvious that you have to invest some time in learning basic stuff (like strengths and weaknesses of all involved aircraft) and Air RB maps & game play.
I watched the replay in order to see how you came in this position - and saw basic mistakes - same as in your match on Spain.
My observations:
-
This was no BnZ attack. BnZ works with a significant altitude advantage whilst being way faster before you dive on your enemy. In this match on the Kuban map you were way too slow and not high enough.
-
BnZ does not work if you zoom too early - your excess speed should bring you out of gun range before you zoom up. In this case there were 3 enemies slightly below you - you attacked the only guy who was distracted (J-26) whilst the JP P-51 C and the Yak-9 M were not even forced to dodge.
-
You need to learn how to play on certain maps. These very small Frontline maps are poison for P-47s as almost everybody climbs better than you - and you have very fast contact with the enemy. A P-47 is working with a high energy state (speed and alt) - but this requires time to climb and getting unspotted in an advantageous position.
I recommend reverse climbing on these very small maps - a 180 turn after take off and getting to alt behind your airfield. Stay at least 10, better 15 km away from the nearest enemy until you are at 5 km. -
I saw in both matches that you don’t climb at optimal speed - its about 260-270 kmph IAS up to 5 km in the 3.7 version. And: You need MEC to get better performance and deal with the overheating. And, ofc, you need to learn to manage the limited WEP time.
-
You need to observe the enemy team and identify their best pilots and aircraft - even in a full downtier. Check the lobby whilst you are climbing, identify squads and good pilots.
Your goal should be to take out the biggest threat - which is usually often also the highest plane or just occupy them and prevent them from murdering your team.
General remarks:
-
If you are really interested in getting better in Air RB and want to continue playing P-47s for US teams in Air RB u need to adapt your playstyle - and play the P-47s exclusively like they should be played: Slow, rather boring and with a lot of patience.
-
I do not recommend to play the 3.7 and 4.3 versions for US teams - these teams tend to collapse extremely fast - and as long as you don’t have 5-6 km alt u have to retreat (even in a full downtier) or you will get clapped.
-
You can invest a few bucks in the UK premium 3.7 version (got mine via war bonds) as the MM is way more favorable (i have about 450 battles in it) and you have usually some Spits in your team helping you to fight the Ki-44/Yak-3 cancer in this BR range.
-
I love the P-47s as they are very stable aircraft at higher speeds with a good flight model (i use a Hotas in Air RB) and they are non-meta aircraft; you have to invest brain power to make them work.
-
You see the true power of the 3.7 P-47 in these small 6 vs 6 matches on Pacific maps. The high contrail alt of ~6.500 meters allows you to sneak up to altitude and you are untouchable even in a full uptier.
Have a good one!
You’re actively dogfighting and turning, bleeding all of your speed, then nosing up into a steep climb thinking you can outclimb or out accelerate planes that are half your size
