Scharnhorst 7.3 → 8.0
This ship has been a menace to naval for the longest time, being one of the hardest ships to kill in the game thanks to its armor scheme.
Its armor can reach over 1000mm RHA, and is next to impossible to ammo rack.
It’s “downside” is it’s weaker cannons, but it’s a mystery how this didn’t get pushed up in BR since all you really do is crew kill it.
If you brawl in it, you’re unstoppable.
Gneisenau 7.7 → 8.0
Having similar armor properties but boasting better cannons, it’s strangely low in br.
This vessel vs. 6.7s is quite literally a loss for the enemy team.
The guns are low caliber and the turrets made of paper. Most battleships can dunk shells down the elevator shaft to instantly hit ammo and you can go straight through the bow plates if it decides to point the bow towards you.
If you let a Scharnhorst get close range to begin with, you deserve the following death sentence.
Same problem as the Scharnhorst but the guns are from the Bismarck. I almost agree for it being bumped up in BR.
given the inherent balance issues between coastal and bluewater, it is (imo) kinda silly to have them coexist in the same BR system.
you could decompress coastal to 5.7 and raise the bluewater minimum to 5.0 or whatever, but the reserve destroyers would still be significantly more powerful than (most) top tier coastals
but if we split the matchmaker into a coastal-only mode, and a bluewater-but-you-can-bring-a-coastal-if-you-want-to mode, you give the coastals a mode where they can play without fear of destroyers and give them more BRs to work with in terms of balance
at the same time, bluewater can now use that BR space to decompress destroyers and cruisers that are currently crammed into ~2.0 BRs, which they have to share with the early battleships
this decompression also creates some space for the (currently coastal) frigates that are large and powerful enough to become bluewaters (Marne, Leopard, Köln, Coolbaugh, Pr.50, SKRs etc), which in turn makes the new coastal mode somewhat more balanced
Even 7 mile range wasn’t producing an ammo detonation after several hits on the scharnhorst.
Both the ships have turtle back armor and can be rather tanky.
Something like the Sevastopol on the other hand, is a glass cannon with the same guns as the genuisanu and no where near the same armor.
Also, in my testing trying to kill the scharn, I was using a SovetSky, which many people regard as the best ship in the game… and that couldn’t kill a scharn after multiple hits in the correct area
Armor viewer is notorious for not reflecting in match performance. If you can’t kill a Scharnhorst, however, with a Soyuz, it’s definitely a skill issue.
You do realize I posted a video of hitting the correct location on the Scharn, and it didn’t blow up?
So because it’s a pin hole shot, with a semi inaccurate SovetSky, that has to have perfect parameters to kill an Scharn, it’s a skill issue? Sure… that makes sense.
A 40.6cm battleship that’s infinitely more accurate than gun trials would have implied.
You really don’t need to be that accurate to nuke a scharnhorst given you can just as easily aim barbettes but you’ve been whining about a battleship that’s now only obnoxious at close range since you entered this thread.
Oh now the 5 yr. Old comments are coming out from you. Cute.
Do you have the scharnhorst? We can test exactly how to destroy the scharnhorst with a SovetSky to satisfy you if need be.
Somehow I doubt the results will differ… especially given how unstable naval servers generally are.
Funnier more so, is the video I took was a custom battle with bots, who are known to be terrible at repairing and bring full ammo, and it didn’t even detonate lol
Hypothetical logic is reasoning is the Project 7U is more survivable due to split machinery spaces, yet that’s a real world logic for the difference between them an the lower BR Project 7 yet in game it usually comes down to what the devs supposedly think is better armament, even then the base model Project 7 is a 4.0 while the late war one is 4.3 meanwhile both Project 7U are 4.7…
I’ll never not laugh at the fact that the Project 7U switch places in BR with the Project 1 destroyers, they used to be 4.7 BR but are now 4.3 while the Project 7U used to be a 4.3 but now is a 4.7.
Also hilarious is that the Stroyny was once considered the worst pre-order destroyer, then Italy came along with the Soldati class Destroyer Geniere which inturn everyone than laughed at the event version Aviere…
I haven’t even started with the ‘5 year old comments’. Yet.
And I posted myself in a Tosa instantly nuking a Gneisenau through the barbettes. Using a shell with far less filler and penetration in another thread.
I’ve done it with a Kirishima and a Kongou too and those are 35.6s.
