With how quickly fires spread for them, it’s arguably worse. It’s regularly just an instant explosion with no possibility to prevent it. German ships will die to fire spreading sometimes but they can at least extinguish them more often than not.
This isn’t even counting how shell rooms are basically inert irl either. USN data shows that hits there are unlikely to cause fires or detonation of shells.
