They’re catering to boring gameplay. Battleships are slow. Slow to move. Slow to fire. Anything that encourages long range engagement without movement is boring. The original idea to focus on Costal boats was the right one.
When all you do is point and click, you lose interest quickly.
top of the hanger, next to 3 lines, Battles > Tutorial. Motor Boat Control Basics/Destroyer Control Basics. Lock on to targets with middle mouse button, I think that’s default. You need to lock on to a target to aim at it. …or…that’s how it used to be. Who know wth is going on now.
Current arcade aiming is point and click. EVEN when shooting at planes. It is NOT intuitive with ANY OTHER aiming system in the game. Like… WHERE AM I AIMING? I have no idea. I know that when I point at a boat, it does all the calculations but how the heck am I supposed to lead a target? How am I supposed to know how to compensate for THEIR evasion maneuvers WHILE I’m maneuvering? I’m lost. I used to be able to do circles in my destroyer while pelting another one evading. Now… I have no idea where my guns are aiming.
This needs to be reversed. It’s ridiculous. Leave Mobile Aiming to Mobile games. This is a dumbing down of the game that seems self-sabotaging.
So I tried, but it wouldn’t work. Apparently the mouse I bought, when hitting the wheel button, has something called smooth scroll or something. I feel defeated.
Out of curiosity… since it seems the overwhelming majority of people who played Naval AB think this new system is basically the worst… has anyone seen/read/heard anything from gaijin in response to our outcries anywhere on any medium?
Not a peep. Closest is this video they published where they “explain” the AB & RB aiming https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbs5eeXaxUw not that it’s helpful or welcome, or addresses any of our concerns at all.
Of course, if such a change as big and detrimental as this was made to air or ground RB, there’d be riots and Gaijin would be forced to respond. Fortunately for them, the AB community isn’t vocal and the Naval community is the smallest. That makes us Naval Arcade players the quietest of the smallest fraction of the playerbase. We can see here Gaijin can safely and easily ignore us, they don’t care.
You can almost certainly disable that feature, either with the company’s software and/or 3rd party software. Don’t dispair, ask google “how to disable smooth scrolling for XYZ mouse”.
if their aim was to attract new players for naval - has anyone seen a advertisement (e.g. yt) for the “brand new fantastic naval arcade mode”? I Can’t believe that they only try to convince existing wt ground or air players?
That’s definitely not the case, because you don’t have automatic aim in Ground Arcade and Air Arcade. In fact the only game mode with auto aim in WT is the new Naval Arcade.
They wrote clearly that they wanted to improve the game experience for existing players. The problem is, they failed massively, and they don’t even know this (because they don’t read the forum). Only the stats (reduced number of players) can show them this problem.
If anything, this change can attract some WT mobile players. But mobile players are a different group of players and they usually play mobile games (and not PC/console games) for a reason. I don’t think a lot of mobile players will suddenly join War Thunder.
It’s also funny to see a video that explains in detail how to aim in the new Naval Arcade:
Our latest update made it much simpler to shoot naval guns in the arcade game mode (…). All you need to do to hit your enemy is to point your crosshair at them.
In the arcade mode, velocity and direction corrections for both your ship and your enemy are calculated automatically, so you don’t need to worry about it.
Yeah, sounds very exciting. We need more videos like this because some players may still not understand this.
This is a game, not a simulator. I’m perfectly fine with EC simulating real life naval battles. But the core consideration should be gameplay, not historical accuracy.
There’s a few seconds a player looks at something and goes “oooh nice” and then everything afterward is just focus on performance and playability.
I’m thinking one of the reasons why there is so much hate for the new aiming system (not from me though) is that in the absence of any other naval mechanic, aiming difficulty provides the excitement. But if there were other things like submarine hunting, more air combat, ground targets etc, I’m sure the new aiming system would be celebrated.
You nailed it. Aiming is the core mechanic. Particularly in larger boats. Knowing your weapons, their velocity and drop, the behavior and utility of the rounds is a huge part of the game. Take that away and you have little. Just like in tanks. If you made tanks point and click, people would be mad. They’d say they killed tanks and that there was no skill involved anymore.
The new aiming system is hella problematic. It kills any skill in the game and turns it into a mobile point and shoot.
Further more, this will only benefit boats already OP. Like the SKRs, the 206’s, etc.
