Nakajima Ki-84-I Tei (キ84-I丁)
The Nakajima Ki-84-I tei aircraft was a Japanese night fighter created in 1944. Two prototypes were created based on the Ki-84-I Ko and Ki-84-I Ostu aircraft, but they do not differ in armament.
History
When the Japanese captured New Britain in 1942, night raids by Allied bombers began on the island. The Japanese Army Air Force tried to counter these attacks with its Ki-44 and Ki-45 interceptors. At a similar time, the Japanese Navy also had similar problems, which in 1943 modernized the J1N1 aircraft into J1N1-S night fighters, which were armed with angled forward cannons, which allowed for easier destruction of enemy bombers. The Japanese army quickly became convinced of the new technology and in 1943 upgraded the Ki-45 to the Tei version. When in 1944 the Ki-84-I Ko aircraft arrived at the base in Rabaul, the Japanese army technicians decided to modify this aircraft in a similar way. The modification consisted in replacing the Ho-103 machine guns with Ho-5 cannons and installing an additional Ho-5 cannon, which was mounted at an upward angle. The first prototype was ready in September 1944. In November, the second prototype of the Ki-84-I Tei was created, this time based on the Ki-84-I Ostu aircraft. It is not known whether the planes were used in combat, but due to the lack of radar, they probably had little success. After the capitulation in Japan in 1945, the Americans found one aircraft in this version at the Rabaul base. The further fate of the Nakajima Ki-84-I Tei aircraft is unknown.
Technical description
The Ki-84-I tei aircraft is based on the Ki-84-I Ko aircraft, but there are a few differences between them, which I will describe here.

  1. The 12.7mm Ho-103 machine guns were replaced with 20mm Ho-5 cannons (the same as in the Ki-84-I Ostu aircraft)
  2. Behind the cockpit in the fuselage at an angle of 45 degrees there is a Ho-5 cannon, the barrel of which goes through the cockpit
  3. In the cockpit, on top of the front cowling, a sight for the Ho-5 cannon was mounted
  4. The barrel of the cannon is covered with a cylinder on top of which there is an antenna.
  5. The cockpit cover is modified to have a notch for the cannon cover, and is only able to open 40%
  6. Behind the cockpit, an inspector is mounted to the Ho-5 cannon

Summary
The Ki-84-I Tei aircraft is a very interesting aircraft for Japan in War Thunder. With the additional Ho-5 cannon, this aircraft will have an unpleasant surprise for enemy fighters and bombers. I encourage you to discuss in the comments and to share your own knowledge on this subject.
Finally, I apologize for the linguistic and logical errors because unfortunately English is not my main language and I had to use google translator.

A +1 from me. More Ki-84s are always welcome! That said, just out of curiosity you have any plans to suggest the Ki-113?

+1 again from me.
Schräge Musik planes are so underated and especially the Japanese have quiet a few in reserve to be added.
Iam exited to see what Nighfightervariant you bring up next :)

I guess no since this one was to heavy to actually fly.
Heavy Steel is not ideal for a fighterplane :)

Very true :)

This is very blurry but comprehensive enough, it mentions that the Ki-84 Tei has the standard 2 20mm’s mounted at a 45-degree angle which would make sense as this was rather standard for the Imperial Japanese Army. Secretprojects Forum tends to be pretty good at finding information about such crafts.

Currently, the photo shows that the plane has only one Ho-5 cannon, maybe the second prototype had two, but this cannot be confirmed visually

Which is why i’m posting more proof Grze, also that picture is a side shot. It’s not that good of proof to back it up. Especially if we know evidence says other wise.

I don’t deny it, but if it had two Ho-5 cannons, it is material for a new suggestion, but additional sources will be needed

Looked through it again, and I just noticed the blurry pixels of the commas → ,
This is a 1 to one of what was written.
“2(After The Canopy), Forward upper 45° direction.” So you were correct. Anyway, that blurry table just helps out as additional documentation, could be also useful for any other vehicles that are suggested by you or someone else so has a good one. 0/

Pretty cool, but there’s no way the max speed is that low
