The game isn’t gonna die, it, however, is getting stale. It’s dying in terms of player interest due to a lack of game mode options for variety.
But not from player pop.
Is it dying? No, but it’s definitely grown stale and boring. They are getting closer and closer to the modern age way too fast, and I feel like that will be when War Thunder will reach the end. I mean, most people here are excited for the next big thing: Meteor missiles, F-22, F-35, etc., and when that happens, what will keep people hyped? WWII tanks that no one cares about? The Great War tanks? Oh yeah, that will not go well.
Also, the only thing bringing people in is the fact it advertises itself as a modern era game. Imagine the shock people have when they see the daunting task of having to suffer through eight ranks to even get what was advertised. Sure, some people give into the premiums, but many others quit the game fast, especially since this game is punishing to grind.

Played enlisted for few days ,saw that it was same B.S by same devs “Lets glorify USSR/Russia” ,uninstalled never looked back.
There was 500 000 + of us during testing phase ,those that still play connect directly to servers but you are right …steam is great for inflating numbers…just one of the services Fat Gabe offers .
BTW …Beta tests was last time i had real fun in this game
I reached top tier with Italy and Germany and stopped right there …
Moment they decided to make GRB Heli/Plane Farmville was when i stopped playing other nations and wasting time in unlocking/spading/unlocking/spading …this game is worse than Runescape as xp grind.
Funny enough, my time playing beta Enlisted, I felt the Germans were OP. I was sniping people from the house outside Moscow’s gates with a MP-40. I believe I had like nearly 60 kills before finally being taken out by a tank. It was crazy, I was picking up my dead comrades’ rifles to carry on firing.
But yeah, I’m just getting all top tier and hiding away in Customs with friends. That’s why all my stuff basically ends when I spades it (hence my meh stats)
