If you’re a fan of SAAF what model MS is the Gripen?

If knowing the direct model of the SAAF Grippen is your superpower, what are you without it?
Also, what does MS stand for? The only Grippens in the SAAF are the JAS39C and JAS39D

MS stands for Material System. It allows you to know which specific series of Gripen C the vehicle is.

For example the Gripen A is a MS17 and the Gripen E is a MS21

Ah, the joys of abbreviations. I was trying to think of what MS could be besides Microsoft. If I remember correctly, isn’t it MS19?

Yes, SAAF bought MS19 since that specific model allowed for the integration of IRIS-T.

There are some slight changes to the SAAF Gripens iirc mainly 3rd party groups brought in to keep certain systems up like the ejection seat and such given the financial problems.

Biggest thing would be to try and get gaijin to add the Gripens via their correct MS series rather than all being amalgams

A buff to the radar would certainly be nice.

Eventually a historically accurate Gripen C for SAAF would be neat, no idea what BR it would go to. Could probably be the best 4th gen carried by it’s IR missiles like the F16’s with IRIS-T

R-Darters and thrust vectoring IRIS-T? Yeah, that will make everyone sad in close range combat. I wonder if the Grippen is able to carry MICAs, because that would make it be one of the best 1v1 jets.

Proper MS19 Gripen would cause you to lose access to GBU-39 as the plan to integrate GPS guided bombs to the Gripen unfortunately didn’t meat the original deadline.

Darters would also technically be removed as they weren’t in service but for gameplay it should keep them and just lose the GBU-39 since it doesn’t have that ability irl.

As for MICA it was evaluated by SAAB and seen quite a few times in papers but nothing on integration so it’s unlikely
