There’s a lot of assumption and drive to be negative about what’s been made rather than actually making the attempt to report it and critically assess it without making out that it’s ‘spaghetti coding’…
I think they are trying to work on a new iteration of the engine, look up Aces of Thunder on Steam.
Mate people back then managed to leak a bit of their coding(WT) years ago so we saw what the coding was. It was precisely spaghetti. It is possible over the years that it had gotten better restructured to the point that it is no longer spaghetti however until some wisecrack leaks more up to date of coding and considering ghost shells still occur. I Press X to doubt
It honestly feels like a pretty common gamer mentality.
Blame everything on the engine and I suppose, for proprietary engines you cannot tinker with - might as well. But Warthunder’s running on an in-house engine (GitHub - GaijinEntertainment/DagorEngine: Dagor Engine and Tools source code from Gaijin Games KFT) that anyone can inspect and draw their own conclusions from.
I’ve only fairly small 2D/isometric experience, but I’ve seen the BYOND game engine be modified and upgraded to allow for features beyond any of the early 2000s’ devs’ wildest dreams in 2010, and likewise in 2020 compared to 2010. If Lumox can single-handedly completely rework their pet project game engine repeatedly over the decades, I’m confident Gaijin could figure out how to update and improve their engine for sake of new features as well. Only caveat being I doubt the suits see much point in investing into engine development unless absolutely necessary (or even fixing technical debt.
Even in hobbyist/indie circles fixing tech debt is a super unappreciated task. We had someone apply to be a permanent maintainer from a simple contributor and one of the senior (non-coder) staff members wanted to reject them since “they didn’t do anything code-wise” (they just fixed a ton of leaks and made our back-end more robust so people don’t cause leaks/runtimes as easily, but since it’s not pretty and in-your face nobody cares…)
Love how the post went from talking about adding something to the game, to talking about code and engines. 😊
To be fully fair its all related at the end of the day.
Well, yes, I understand there is work behind everything and coding and the such, but I just wanted to open this for opinions and feedback on it.
Muzzle shots need to be easier to spot especially in low visibility
A nice gameplay feature would be adding IRST tracking to MBTs so shells like MPAT and time fused shells have more use instead of being a gimmick.
MPAT is a VT fused round, it shouldn’t require an IRST, let alone any MBT that I know of doesn’t have IRST.
Also Timed fuse shells aren’t a gimmick, you simply have to account for speed and then range of change over that distance.
Isn’t this already in the game? Aircraft engines do not heat up as much in cold weather maps.
The relation of heat and power output are not related in that way.
Colder air in means more power, and a cooler engine, while being more efficient, yes, engines do not heat up as fast in cooler environments, it doesn’t have increased power.
Forgot to mention snow :P I’ll add it to the post in a second.
Tanks like the original Abrams had ballistic target lock/tracking without IRST. It uses its laser to determine the distance and speed of the target to calculate the right amount of lead, and most modern MBTs can engage helicopters with better and more sophisticated systems nowadays, I think it would be a nice feature to have in WT and give ground forces a break.
Most all modern MBT’s have that, so, okay.
It would behoove you to read replies in a monotone manner rather than assuming it’s a maniacal rant or witty retort as you seem to have done with your presumption I have a chip on my shoulder or that I have a problem with the game. Nonetheless, I am not wrong in my original statement to the original poster.
If you have nothing worth noting to add to the topic of the actual post, move on. If you’re here to be pugnacious. Try a different forum/app/chat. It seems to be your modus operandi within these confines.
